oooooooooo oc48 is a connection?? lol whoops..

LOL Yeah its a slowed down OC192? which as far as I know is the fastest connection you can get and costs hundreds of thousands of dollars a month. The OC 48 prolly runs in the tens of thousands per month.

Wed Oct 23, 2002 3:44 pm

tens of thpusands a month??!!! just for a game server?! DANNNGGG!!!!! you guys rock!!!!

Wed Oct 23, 2002 3:58 pm

not to be a bother, but i was doing research of OC48 lines...and they do 2.48 gig transfer!! HOLY CRAP!!  oh and uhh..BugarBomb. OC192 is not the fastest :D ..the fastest is OC255 and it has 19.22 gigs of transfer/second!!!  it is hundreds of thousands of dollars a month, with thousands of dollars SETUP fee!! OC48 is also hundreds of thousands a month!!!

MMmmGood, are you a business?..are you on a lan OC48? cuz uhh..hundreds of thousands a month is a !$#@ load of money!!

sry i was so bothersome, but i had to ask

Wed Oct 23, 2002 4:25 pm

I think the game server is either hosted at a company he works for or it is located at a datacenter. A datacenter is just a building that houses servers and has a phat pipe to connect them to the internet and the oc48 my be the datacenters pipe.

I think an OC 48 is a little more than a few thousand a month :)

Not sure how dated this price is, but an oc 48 for a month is listed as being $450,000 approx

Wed Oct 23, 2002 6:53 pm

ya 450,000 i found that too...its UP TO DATE TOO!! damn...i wish Motha would reply :( i wanna know if he is connected from a business or what ? :(

MothaFucka here..

The server is actually on a 100Mbs Fast Ethernet connection, that connects back to a core router via Gigabit Ethernet (1000Mbs).

The router is then connected via an OC48 to a nationwide backbone, originating out of Equinix Ashburn. So it is connected to other networks via Fast Ethernet, OC3/12/48, or Gigabit Ethernet.

So, it is a FAST backbone, but no, the server is not on a 2.4Gbs direct connection, it is via 100Mbs ethernet to an OC48 backone.

Plus, I like the name OC48Gaming.Com, don't you?

oo i c...still fast though...100 meg wire(what i mean is like the network wire..mine is 10/100 through a router) or 100 mb download/upload?? yes oc48 gaming is cool :)

one other question (sorry)

how much is that a month? i am lookin into different connections, and i need a very fast one..100 mb sounds good :)

If you have to ask...

You can't afford it!

I operate out of 2 datacenters at the moment, and opening up a third.

I've got TONS of bandwidth available to me, hence the game servers, I love online gaming (even though my time is less and less lately).

Enjoy it!
