A Whine from last nights Coral Sea

I wasn't playing last night, but when I looked at the names on TS I thought "Uh-oh". I didn't want to intervene, as balancing the TS channels is hard enough, balancing pilots becomes a little too much. It's just a matter of everyone doing his part by looking at TS between maps and choosing a team accordingly.

easier said than done for some of us.....I don't have another pc setup to run TS that I can look at between map loads, so I'd have to alt-tab out, which seems to cause havoc on the map loading process, with BF often times taking back focus when it starts to load, causing me to alt-tab again (and ctr-alt-del again to get my mouse working). This is why you'll often hear me asking "Is TS balanced ok?" b/c I know some of you have laptops, or 2nd pc's, that have TS running on them and can easily look and see.

yeah I remember the last time I played coral sea from the other night. :O It was a miracle just to fly off the allied carrier with at least 75 percent hp. Of course 90 percent of the time I was able to escape off the carrier I eventually got nailed by our own flak and taken below 40hp. Yes I'm positive it was our own flak because I was completely shielded from any possible island AA and definitely had flak bursts right on top of me. I would never call the AA people idiots for doing this because they were just overwhelmed with enemies but it was very frustrating. Especially when a lot of allies on the carrier were quick to call every pilot on allies "the worse pilots ever". Flying against 10:1 odds on coral sea with a big pile of smoke flowing from your plane does not allow for much survival time.
What concerns me is that all it takes is one rogue AA person to wreak havoc on friendly planes who are only trying to take off. They can't be busted if all they do is take hp levels down low from a burst or two unless an admin is watching them in freecam mode. If only we had a text notification when somebody is wounding a friendly plane with flak (ie "little billy [flak] attacked "CrazyBri" ). On second thought maybe that's a bad idea since that would probably utilize 3/4 of the bandwidth dedicated to chat.
I understand that the ECGN admins do not want friendly planes flying around their own carrier but the people on AA should not be shooting at friendly planes who are only trying to leave the carrier for battle. Many times that I was hit I was well within range to not be mistaken for an enemy.
@farginMofo- (about the stacked axis round) I thought some of those pilots chose axis instead of staying with their initial team. If that's not what happened then I apologize. I'm very new to the Teamspeakaspect so I'm not sure if many ecgn players try to stay together based on the TS channels or if they just switch TS channels based on the ingame auto-assigned team .

For the past couple of months I mainly stay where the game puts me at start. I'll switch TS channels accordingly. If I spot a difference in number of players (usually more than 3 depending on map) I'll switch over to the other side. I'm not sure about anyone else switching over at the start of last nights Coral Sea. Half way into that map I got too caught up in trying to fly, gain altitude, and avoid flak/fighters to notice an imbalance in quality of players. Usually theres not much one can do. Lets say both teams are 32 vs 32 and axis has better pilots. If 2 pilots volunteer and jump over to allies that makes it 30 vs 34 and now allies has the advantage.
As far as the flak goes, just take off and exit the area as quickly as possible. Bob and weave on your way out, hit the "Negative!" message a couple of times if someone on your team if flaking you, etc. AA gunners on the other hand can't be shooting at anything that moves. I hate the ones that over-flak the kill. The plane is toast, the guy is dead, and they still shoot off 2-3 extra flak rounds at it. This is usually when friendly fire occurs. Also, remember that flak can come from any of the 5 islands so it may not be coming from the ship all the time.

Actually I think freecam is off now (thought it was on when i wrote the post) From what I remember, the chaseview for the AA is pretty worthless if you're trying to bust somebody for intentionally shooting friendly planes taking off.
There's still hope though because I could physically walk over to the AA and witness it that way. Of course they'd know I was watching them in that situation. hmmm some of them probably couldn't care less though

edit: farginmofo: I realize the island AA can be spammed at the carriers but there were situations when I was shielded from the island AA and still took direct flak hits. For example, flying south of the allied carrier from the control tower and 5 feet above the water I was taking flak hits. The first and middle island couldnt have done that because the carrier was blocking it. The SE island AA wasn't a possibility because it was way too low even if they got lucky and guessed my position through the fog. I thought about actually trying to dodge the flak like you suggested but I was worried that would make me look more like an enemy to them. Maybe my problem is I should assume they are the enemy and stop giving them such an easy shot when I take off.

I think alot of people assume that they're getting hit by their own flak when it reality they're getting hit by an enemy on their island AA. Just because there isn't a gray dot there doesn't mean that it's destroyed. On this match that we're talking about, I repeatedly stated that our island AA was not friendly and finally Kristov had to get out of the AA gun he was on to go scout and shoot the guy out of the AA. There should always be infantry on that island. One in the AA and a couple roaming to take out their infantry.
Another problem, and it's not the regs fault because there's not much they can do about it, but when you get three smackers in the AA and one reg in the front right, not much is going to get done about the aircraft. All the smaclers keep their AA guns pointed at the water and not up in the air. It's just a pain when three idiots can ruin the whole round for their team.

We still get lots of drop in players that don't know FF is on.
To bad flak doesn't work like the other guns. meaning,
the auto local call to quit shooting.

It's not in the rules. However, expect to get flak if you do (in all senses).
Tonight Coral Sea went pretty well, and the Allies would have won if they had quit spawning on the deck. Why anyone would do that is beyond me. I saw an AichiVal kill about 7 guys in one run. Spawn below decks, run up while repairing! Also, when you take off with the Corsair, always drop a bomb on the defgun!
