I have Road Runner Cable internet ( yea..it's badass )..lol.. I was looking at TigerDirect.com today and i was wondering.. how much does the modem effect your connection?..i mean.. if you have a cheap $15 cable modem you got for free from the company.. would a $40 modem be better...Also.. is tehre anywasy to find out the specs of my modem?..it's a " Ericsson PipeRider ".. if you guys could tell me how to find out the actual specs on it i could compare..thanx..

Obviously a higher quality modem would affect your performance, but it has to do with other things, what is your speed cap? If your already getting the best possible speed with your current modem getting a better modem capable of more than that would be a waste of money.

I have CableVision Optonline here. I don't like CableVision Inc., at all, but their internet service is outstanding.

I was one of the first subscribers in my area to have this service. I had a US Robotice MMC (I think it was) from day one. Over time, I noticed a general loss of performance. Recently, at times, I had problems staying connected to the docxis switch on my node. They provided me (free) with a brand new Motorola Surfboard, it solved all problems, and I once again scream along on the internet, very stabily.
