Edogg is out of commission for awhile :(

Sun Nov 17, 2002 7:13 pm

Im sorry guys but im having major probs with my pc right now, and i havent figured out exactly why yet. My pc will power up, but it wont boot up.
my monitor just acts like it isnt getting a signal. I checked the video card and its fine. The hard drive turns on and i can hear it spinning. All of the fans turn on. I think I may have zapped my mother fucking mother board(a mofo mobo:) ) when i put in some new RAM. If thats the case, then I may be doing some major upgrades.;) . Until then I wont be able to play any rtcw:( If you guys have any suggestions(other than a dead mobo) as to what my problem is, i would like to hear them.:help:

Im already having withdrawals from rtcw, hopefully ill be back up in a week or two. It looks like i may miss the scrimmage with gfu though,so iceman and zog please plan accordingly.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!! No Edogg, it just won't be the same without the Dogster around. I wish my PIII would blow up:blow:. I dying to get a P4. But my wife would kill me, " What's wrong with your old computer?" is what she'd say! Sorry what was your problem again!:D LOL

RtCW with no EDogg, is like pizza with no cheese, and no sauce. :P

I'd suggest changing power supplies (or swapping with another one at least). Then try booting into your BIOS with nothing but your video card, RAM (one DIMM at a time) and a floppy drive.

If your system boots with just these components, it might be bad RAM.

There are a million things it could be, the mofo mobo might very well be the problem (if I had a nickel for everytime someone cracked their motherboard by forcing some RAM into a slot, I'd be rich).

I cant even get into the bios, there isnt even a beginning of the boot process. I push the power button and the hard drive fires up, and thats it.

Signs of life?

Any beeps? Did you try removing DIMMs? Try to boot as minimum as possible...no hard drive, no CD, one DIMM (this may involve yanking your sound card, network card, etc....just keep track of where they go so you don't change the system too much and end up with an IRQ conflict).

Edogg PC, bang, bang, ugh, ugh....no workie, no PC.

The beach is in mourning.

Sun Nov 17, 2002 8:38 pm

the only beeps i ever heard was when I tried to start it up without any memory whatsoever. I dont know if this means that the motherboard has any life or not.

Sorry to hear you're out of commission Edogg. It sucks not having you there. I've been trying to fill the void that you've left but my jokes aren't half as funny and I'm not nearly as vicious with a venom in the war room. Hurry back and tell your computer I said to get well soon.:P

Was wondering where you'd disappeared! Did you try Zog's advice? It sounds awfully similar to a situation I was in before where you get no BIOS etc... I basically nicked my wife's RAM and stuck it in mine... worked perfectly then! If you don't have a secondary working machine to nick components from, try testing each of your RAM in turn.... listen to the PC beeps, they normally tell you if your memory's bad or if something else is teh problem.

The beeps you hear without the memory probably means ur mobo's complaining about that fact; stick 1 memory piece in it and see what type of beep it gives you then... check the mobo manual for the interpretation of the beeps... Hope ur box gets sorted soon!!

You turned on your PC while the memory wasn't properly seated huh? By what your description of things it looks alot like a dead mobo alright. And your memory is probably ok too. Just change your mobo and everything will be fine.

Go play with your girlfriend while waiting for a new mobo. :D

Hopefully youve almost fixed your problem by now. Either way, we will miss Edoggy dog. Did I mention that you fellows know WAY too much about computers. I turn mine on and if it responds I play, If it doesnt, I throw it out the window and run up to Best Buy. Ha Ha. Hope your up by this weekend, at least.

WAR TAKING UP DONATIONS TO BY EDOGG A NEW COMPUTER!!

Regards, Ice41

Cor throwing it outta the window sounds a bit extreme! After all those years of service to you and that's how you repay your poor box? :D

Actually, Edogg, before you go doing that, lemme tellya the first time that situation happened to me (i.e. no operation after installation of RAM), I couldn't find the problem and went out and bought new memory, new mobo AND new CPU... the problem turned out that NOTHING was wrong, it was just that I had tried to force the memory stick in the slot the other way around (wouldn't go in of course, but I still tried to force and then 'thought' it went in)... yeah, I know, don't install after too much to drink...

So before you start throwing your hard earned bucks on new stuff, do check ur equipment...

Oh, my wife ended up benefiting from the extra equipment... :P

Mon Nov 18, 2002 1:50 pm

i tried to start my system up with everything back the way it was before the fiasco, i didnt get any beeps. I tried starting up with just video card, 1 stick of memory, the floppy drive, and hard drive...and I got nothing.
I tried booting with just video card, and 1 stick of memory, and the floppy drive...and I got nothing. I tried booting with the 1 stick of memory in a different slot each time..and i got nothing. I tried booting with a different video card...and i got nothing. to sum up: for everything i have tried i get the same result...nothing. Im still thinking my mobo is bad even though it does beep when i try no memory.(i only tried this to see if i could get some type of reaction from the motherboard). A friend at school has suggested to me that I should try to reset my Bios, which is what I will try when I get home late tonight. So that is where I am at right now. if nothing works i am going to order an intel board and a new P4 2.4 ghz and some ddr memory from http://www.pricewatch.com. I should get that stuff in a few days.
