hi. just out of curiosity, why do some players like to play on old versions? i have never understood why. especially when the rtcw community is this small, it only makes things worse.

Because 1.3 version was far better than this version(my own opinion). I guess i started out on 1.3 never felt the reason to move on from that. Now that *BaD* clans servers gone so have i moved on from that version. I figure 1.4 will soon to meet the same fate.

better servers(initially). less lag(less people on servers). better rules/less abuse. map rotation. less crap kills: goomba, poison needle, throwing knives. less assholes. That at least describes 1.3. People who play 1.0 is cuz they hack, like dm, dont have cd key, or like drop reload noobness.

yeah weezy i understand most of that, but why do these server admins choose to run 1.3 in the first place?
you can still have a server with 1.41 that has better rules/less abuse, map rotation, and less crap kills. those are just server settings that can be changed.
less people on servers doesn't make much sense to me because if all the 1.0/1.3 or whatever servers switched to 1.41 it's not like they would be flooded with people and full all the time. about half or more of the player base of ecgn only wants to play beach, so these other servers should just switch to 1.41 but keep their usual rotations. makes sense to me.

As far as the admins decision to keep servers in older versions, i cant explain exactly why they decided so. But I would guess: that is the original version they played, grew a clan there, and just stayed. A couple of clans from 1.3 tried to jump to 1.4, only to come back within six months because most of the players would not follow. I also knew a couple of 1.4 osp players who switched to 1.3. IMO an older version is sometimes better. ie. XP > Vista.
