Hunting Hackers

Wed Aug 11, 2010 8:39 pm

ssshhhhhhhhh...... be very, very quiet...... we're hunting hackers in their natural habitat, the ECGN RTCW Server

hackers roam in packs, its not uncommon to spot several at a time but only on one team, this type of "stacking" behaviour is common to the species

oh wait, here comes one now lets watch:

Msb, I don't want to reveal a name yet, cause I'm not really an expert on spotting hackers. Maybe they are not really a hacker I don't want to ruin their good name by saying who they are.

I would be interested in explanations of how to do these shots. If this is a legit player then please explain how the shots are done or if they are a hacker what is it that tips you off to hold that opinion.

from the same demo/same player here is another second nade shot 5 minutes before the first one (2 different views to better understand)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xolrYNjsmbw trick nade #2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kC3UvltjkN8 trick nade #2 ALTERNATIVE VIEW

In both videos there is never any visible target, but the nade shots are primed and very accurate, not exactly lotto nades.

In the first video the target is moving backwards and toward the shooter and is never really audible until after the nade is already being primed. Does he know the target has his back turned and presents no threat, what if that target was somebody like Nigel, the shooter could get owned while holding a nade. Also should the shooter not be worried about an opponent coming though the trenches, they just dropped their gun!!! an *expert* player dropping their gun and are now unarmed hmmmm.....

In the second video the target is moving though the trenches, up the stairs and past the window with the mounted gun. The shooter seems to be able to track the target very accurately to prepare a primed nade despite being surrounded by walls. As far as sound go there are a crapload of both allies/axis footsteps/walking around as well as gunfire/bouncing nades. How is it possible to accurately acquire/track a target from all that noise?

I'm tired so I will give some more thoughts on videos/hackers tomorrow....

Explanation:
The nade thrower saw the allie outside the bunker window. He walked silently down murder hole incase the allie was coming. He threw out his gun in order to get the distance with the nade to hit someone in front of the window. Not a hacker, it all just worked out as planned imo. Sometimes it does, was a great shot.

*kman, using the ingame menu you should be able to make it much brighter. I think you may have vertex lighting on...or off I can't remember which is worse. Also bind r_intensity 3 to a key. The game will still look realistic and you'll be able to fkn see.

You can pretty much hear all the way to the forward bunker from there so it's pretty likely he just heard him. Not that he even really needed to hear them because there's always someone there camping the window and waiting for an airstrike to charge.

Kman, how the hell do you keep the panz for round after round? Seems like you and a few other people can do this consistantly. Also it can get taken away during warm up. WTF is with that? :ar15:

Probably skibblet.

Nothing alarming about those nade shots, he's just tossing them where allies usually travel.
