Rotation notifier app: q3/rtcw/et server browser for Android

Mon Sep 30, 2013 10:54 pm

Hello guys,

based on Wolfy's idea I started writing an Android app as a learning project for myself. Here are a few lines about it, if you have any additional ideas, wishes, pls feel free to comment this topic, I'll try implementing them.

The code will be open source but not copyleft, some GPL-ish license is to be selected later. No money involved.

Planned functions:

- select and browse servers: show server name/IP, mods, players, number of players, map, pb, ping. Maybe cvarlist could be added too.
- alerts by any of the above info or a mixture of them (like: alert if # of players > 5 AND map is NOT beach AND 10PM > time > 4PM AND Jesus is not online)
- selectable system/sound/flashing alerts
- select games to deal with
- select refresh interval
- get server lists, add servers manually
- selectable wifi only mode

I've never done anything for Android before, neither I have too much free time for the project, I don't know how long it will take to create something usable. Hopefully not more than a couple months, I'll try to finish it until Christmas the latest.

That's it!

J.

I'm not an android user but this seems like a great idea!

Glad you like it!

The idea is not mine, I don't know if more than 2-3 ppl will ever use it, but maybe more useful than yet another nyancat scroller or another version of pong... whatever. The main purpose is to create something simple before I start anything serious.

Already done designing the layout, drawn a simple flowchart, I "just" have to photoshop some graphics and write the code itself. Will be optimized for my 7'' el cheapo tablet.
