How do CD keys Work?

Sat Jun 21, 2003 4:47 pm

Greetings,

I have been having problems with my CD key lately. It is a legit key from my legally owned store bought game, and it usually works with a strange twist. It seems that I always have to enter into the server (ecgn) twice, before I can start playing. First time it disconnects for unknown reason, and it erases the last 2 digits of the key, which I type in, and then it get in the game fine the second time.

I have two PC's hooked together, and never had a problem using them both at the same time with the same CD key.

How and where are these things verified? Why is mine acting up? Is it possible I was banned by CD key or something like that? Sometimes I can get on another server, but not ecgn, says invalid cd key.

Thanks,

reformat, install one copy and buy another for your other pc. the safest longest route is sure to get you where you want to go.

Well,

I might try that, but I am still looking for an explanation.

try making the file that has your cd key read only

don't edit your cd key, RTCW always reads it, but if you look at it, it will make you enter the 2nd letters, you dont have to, but it's somewhat of an illusion i suppose...but ya, like they said(above) make your file read only, just open it in word or something, and enter your cd key..it should work

and as far as paying both pc's with the same cd key..BE CAREFUL!!! i got banned from a lot of servers because i had 8 computers using the same key on one network. i ended up going and buying a new copy
