What attributes do Clan Recruiters look for?

Mon Dec 16, 2002 5:18 pm

God I can see the responses now ..." Killing people numb nuts" , no but seriously. Sure there are the types of new clans that take anyone they can get a hold of, and some that are really strutured and pronounced.I was just curious to some of the great clans on oC48 ,what do they look for ?. Do you guys base new recruits on different skills that might be of value for a balanced group or just flat out great players even if all their attributes resemble the rest of team members?.Do you go on the lookout for expert snipers or bombastic luits?.Do you look at the numbers after each round ?, or the experiences you delt with that particular recruit (i.e. he got you good) ?. or maybe as simple as He's a nice guy?.This thread will probably get mired in the bottom w/ out any responses ,but then again who knows maybe some Clans leaders will voice their opinions.

This is actually a great question Osprey. When I'm out looking for a new member, they're are a ton of things that I'm looking at. However, I think everyone is different in what they look for. First off, what deficit is there in my clan that I'm wanting to correct? Do we have 10 medics and 1 LT? Then, I'm looking real close at the LT's. From my own experience, I've found the toughest holes to fill are those with heavy weapons- the soldiers. Problem is, most (not all) of the really talented players don't grab a heavy weapon because they don't want the stigma of a noob. Often, it's the more amateur players that use those weapons and they aren't what you need.

Points matter. Everyone loves to say that they don't but they do. Although not perfect, points do measure your productivity. Sure you can artificially jack up your point score on axis by camping in the wr. But, I look for someone who gets high scores consistently. They don't have to camp to score well.

Attitude of the player is a must. This varies by clan. I want a nice (humorous is good) guy who doesn't talk trash. He acts mature and won't embarass me in a clan war by spamming or talking trash.

Also important is how they've done when I've faced them 1v1. I don't mean whether they can luck out and hit me with an airstrike or a nade. I mean, MP40 vs Thompson, when neither of us is got offguard. They don't have to win those battles with me, just do some serious damage. If they kill me, I'm all the more impressed. Obviously this is a little different if they have a venom or something similar.

Situational awareness is important too. Can they think one step ahead of the enemy? Are they always the first to call out which way the docs went? This is probably the hardest to gauge.

When I look for a player I admit what firsts attracts my attention is points....But then I watch the way they play. Teamwork is the most important aspect (i.e. does he give ammo, is he the first to revive people stuff like that.) I dont care if the person scores over 100 each game if he doesnt help his team or work well with others:D . I like to see good communication, a team attitude, the ability to make a difference in the game. It is also important on how aware the person is, does he know what a luger sounds like can he tell who is around the corner based on the gun they shoot stuff like that. Then last what type of person they are do they talk shit make fun of people or are they generally a nice guy. Hell I know everyone has a bad day so I would forgive but in general are they a smacktard. Its just a game so enjoy it.

How I look at it, is if you get a player with incredible talent but is a guy who talks crap, then it really hurts the team more than anything. I'd rather find a nice guy who is a decent player. I do look at skill, however, and I usually look at how good of aim they got, and how they think in different situations. Also, I look and see how "skillfully" they can get out the needle. I do not look at points ever at the end of a round. Points mean nothing, except in some situations. I know many noobs who can get 200 or 300 points a game if it's busy in the war room. I also am trying to find people who are skilled at snipering. Snipering is a keyful position during a war at the beginning of some matches. However, they have to be able to be good in other areas too. THey can't be some noob just snipering b/c that's the only position they can do. <Ming> for example, is an excellent sniper. That's all I really have to say.

Wow ASH, I didn't know you guys looked at all that stuff. To be considered for ASH I thought all you had to do was smoke pot and bash Americans. :P ;)

You know I'm just playin' with you guys.:D

I just want to say that points shouldnt be the underlying factor when looking at how good someone is. Especially if that person is playing a particular role on the team. If he is doing what he supposed to be doing, he may not necessarily have to put up a lot of points. for example, everyone knows i camp in the war room with a venom. I also hope that everyone knows by now that im not there for easy points. There are some rounds where i will rack up a lot of points but that is just because im doing my job. There are also rounds where I will put up very few points, but i am still doing my job.
On the allies i could rack up the most points in a good percentage of the rounds if i wanted to, but that doesnt really help the team if all i am doing is just picking up the docs and then being blown to bits every time. Ive said it before and ill say it again, points dont win games...teams do.

I will admit that if someones point average is high over a long time span, then it is probably safe to say that person is good. Now whether they are an overall good person is another story.:D

CLAN Attributes...

I like a player who responds to my, "Hellos" very quickly.

If a guy can kick ass and yet still maintain a friendly conversationm during a game, then that man must be a pro ass-kicker!

i may have no experience recruiting, but in my opinion, id be after friendly people who like to have a good time and laugh. they also wont mind screwin around every now and then :p

Thanks for the great responses fellas. I was actually pretty shocked that I got this much feedback.I quess it says volumes to the clans that operate within oc48. The reason I started this thread is becouse I might be actually hanging up my gloves as a loner. Although bieng by yourself has great challenges, however I am coming to realize that working with a team might have greater horizons. Thanks for the info and who knows what the future holds.

I believe some team is going to be grateful to have you, Osprey. Everyone here has made some great points which I fully agree with when looking at a recruit. One thing that is big with me is when a player puts his points aside for the betterment of the team. A good example of this is one of our latest recruits, Cowgomoo. He put aside scoring one game to support me in ducts with med packs. It was just me and him, and with his help we held those ducts for 23 out of 25 minutes. My points looked great after game because there was a LOT of action, but his probably suffered. Needless to say, when Zog asked me if I were up for adding Cow he got my vote. He demonstrated to me the ability to do whatever it took to help the team in a particular game. That along with him being mature beyond his years and scoring consistently.

What I look for is a real scumbag, someone that his own mother would hate...Somebody that would stick a knife in your back, kick you when your down, out and out piece of garbage....oh ya and if your a perv thats good too:D

Im a big believer in the objective is what matters. Points although a good way of benchmarking performance means squat if your side did'nt complete the objective. It also doesnt hurt to have Charles Manson on your side either Bukkake

First I look at the points, then I go spectating that guy. If he plays well, he can join. As simple as that. He has got to be from West-Europe. And also, it has to be a friendly guy.
If they ask me if they can join, and I see that they aren't supergood, I mostly recruit them. I have a few members that weren't that good in the beginning, but they have evolved well in WEF, because of the trainings. And now they are becoming very good players.
