Time to get our competitive act together.

I know a lot of us have our reasons for quitting RtCW. New living situations, hobbies, girlfriends, and a multitude of other excuses for us sliding that old wolf CD back under a rug somewhere. But times need to change, as many of us here probably miss the good ole' competition 6v6 days that Return to Castle Wolfenstein had to offer. A few days ago, I decided to dust off the game and install it on my PC. I began to realize the advantages that it has over many games, especially console games that allow too much cheating and not enough patches to battle it. RtCW has those patches, as well as a rich team environment that can be intense action during regulated match play. I'm sure many of you know this, and I'm sure many of you remember the thrill that RtCW match play had to offer. I'm also sure you are all aware of the lack of servers to use for game play. This can change too, if we try and spark some form of competition again. People will practice more, and the ambition of others to step into the competitive zone may create more popularity for the game. No, I'm not ultimately preaching a revival of RtCW, as that just simply can't happen with the mass release of games out there today. All I'm asking is that the rest of us continuing to enjoy this very lovable game are able to compete in a league. Possibly one day a week, like a Wednesday or Sunday. Some day that most people would be able to make; and roughly at 9:00 CDT so that both east coast and west coast alike can benefit from the league. I am entirely willing to head up operations for this, but I will need YOUR help. If you have any bit of information that may be helpful to me in advertising this organized league, or are simply interested in joining one, let me know. Team or no team, I will try and find a place for you in the league. All I ask is that people spread the word, and get ready to gear up for some classic wolfenstein competition.
Thanks to all,
Ryan O.

Re: Time to get our act competitive act together.
Me and some people at .GP were thinking the same thing. It'd be hard to get something like this organized.

Re: Time to get our competitive act together.
The problem doesn't lie in how the league will be organized. I think I could get together a detailed structure based off of some of the previous leagues, as well as a few modifications of my own. The main problem is that we need to get noticed by most of the RtCW players out there, since the population has diminished significantly. All we really need is enough interest in the league, and I can see it flourishing within a couple weeks. Go out and advertise, and for those of you reading this that think competitive wolf is a lot of fun, don't be afraid to just reply to this post showing you'd like to get involved. As I stated before, team or not, there can be arrangements made once we actually have a count of heads as to where your place will be in the league. My main concern right now is finding an appropriate web host for the matches. If I can get a popular RtCW competition site to host the league, it would be easier to get started since a lot of the pre-existing league structures are already tied into some of those websites. If not, I don't mind creating something simple at a free host if it comes down to it. Just show me your hands people!

Seems like a waste of time to me. No offence. It's a 7 going on 8 year old game, you find it in the bargain box at the supermarket. The best you can hope for is to claw back some of the people that left and even then the people who are likely to be interested in competition are probably already competing in a newer game.
I can tell you what most people will say. They'll say 'let me know when it's finalised' then fail to follow it up and forget about it.

Re: Time to get our competitive act together.
I have been playing RtCW frequently these past few days, and I've noticed a lot of familiar names. A good amount of people still play this game, and while they share interests in other games, I'm sure; they still play this one once or twice a week from what I've seen. I know there's a lot of people out there that still play Unreal Tournament 2K and Quake 3 even. Maybe they are just on there to dink around on the game for a bit.
But then again, wouldn't it be nice for those of us playing on the servers enough where we spend a good amount of time from our lives each week to be able to have one night where a group of guys could get together and have a kickass faceoff in RtCW? If you were there back when competition was on, you know.. it's exhilarating to battle another team. And I know that it would be harder to organize teams, but wouldn't it be nice to just find some people that want to get involved, and get them together on a team? It might be hard for some straggler teams to adjust to some of their players, but for the most of us that play the game; we understand that if you are on a team, you want your team to win. I think it would be possible to just take maybe an hour before each match and organize your team priorities, otherwise practice is always not a bad idea. That's all it should really take for people wanting to join. I just hope that when I get a site going, there will be enough teams/players signing up.

Re: Time to get our act competitive act together.
I started playing many years back (anyone remember SSI? or did I just imagine that). I took a break to have a kid, but reinstalled recently and have to say it's a total blast. I prefer the online play here (absence of vehicles, etc.) to a lot of other games. It's a good group too - at least the peeps that I remember from way back when. Happy to see some are still here.
Anyway - I'll play organized (I suck, but someone has to die a lot!). Great idea to get something organized!!

Damn bird, don't be so positive. We couldn't take it! I know several guys that would be interested if it was only one night per week.
Spurrier is Here.
