Are you only having problems with surfing and are you using IE?

you guys are so funny...not...if it wasn't my brother it was my roomate but his laptop isnt messed up like my brothers so I highly doubt that he was the one on it

actually in general it seems the computer is running slower but I can somewhat deal with that...games still seem to work with no problem though...yes using IE .. have mozilla firefox but only dl'd it to watch movies on surfthechannel... all websites load hella slow but pop-ups have slowed down monsterously...also dont know if this matters but says my windows automatic update isnt on and it really is...running xp service pack 2

I could be time for some cleaning up. A) Start with removing all programs you do not use. B) After removing the rubbish run the free Ccleaner. C) Decrease the amount of disk space used for system restore, 1GB is more than enough since one XP restore point only takes roughly 75MB. D) Use the free Scott's Windows Startup Program Manager to remove unnecessary startups, Google if you do not know what to exclude when you are tweaking the startup. E) Defrag your Hard Disk. You can use the windows one but better is to use Jk Defrag, it also can clean up and wipe data from free spaces. F) Install the Firefox NoScript plugin to block Java based crap.

Have fun :)

I thought for the most part everything was solved...McAfee keeps poping up saying there is a suspect file on my comp but anytime I scan it doesnt find anything...anyone know a different/better virus scan that will find it if there even really is one? Also don't know if this is a problem or not but cant get windows update to turn back on and I know I was behind in updates becasue I never installed them but the pop up on the task bar that told me I needed to update won't pop up anymore and it keeps telling me my automatic update is turned off...and its not

Try this; Uninstall McAfee and install AVG instead, this could solve your update problem. And check your startup with Scott's Windows Startup Program Manager for malware.
