FPS switches on shrub servers

Postby skibby » Wed Dec 17, 2008 10:21 pm

So i really have no clue on shrub stuff - i didnt even know that crouching helps you gain sprint back until a few months ago - anyway i'm having trouble trying to get an easy FPS bind where i can QUICKLY switch between 43, 76, and 125 fps.

My osp bind for this looks like:

seta fps1 "set fpsx2 forcefps 43; forcefps 43; cl_maxpackets 30; set fpsx1 vstr fps2; echo ^1FPS^7 has been set to ^143"
seta fps2 "set fpsx2 forcefps 72; forcefps 72; cl_maxpackets 63; set fpsx1 vstr fps3; echo ^1FPS^7 has been set to ^172"
seta fps3 "set fpsx2 forcefps 125; forcefps 125; cl_maxpackets 100; set fpsx1 vstr fps1; echo ^1FPS^7 has been set to ^1125"
seta fpsx1 "vstr fps1"
bind UPARROW "vstr fpsx1"

unfortunately in shrub you can have +vstr binds (i realize i will have to bind 3 keys for each one of the fps's) nor does forcefps work. In shrub its com_maxfps.

I try to bind the maxfps but it tells me i need to restart wolf (or vid_restart) in order for them to take effect. Is there anyway to avoid this? Also i'm running into the problem where if i change my fps to say 76, vid_restart and then try to turn it back to 125 it wont let me - it says maxfps: "76"; default: "85"; latched: "125". I have no clue what this means and why its 'latching' anything...

I get really shitty fps cause my comp is crap i would like be able to do jumps outside...any help would be appreciated

here's mine

// Max fps toggle
bind b vstr fps

set fps1 "set com_maxfps 43; echo ^0> ^7Max fps set to^0: ^743; set fps vstr fps2"
set fps2 "set com_maxfps 76; echo ^0> ^7Max fps set to^0: ^776; set fps vstr fps3"
set fps3 "set com_maxfps 125; echo ^0> ^7Max fps set to^0: ^7125; set fps vstr fps1"
set fps vstr fps1

Just put it in your Autoexec file in main, to be safe when I do anything to my config

I copy and paste my main autoexec, and put it in main as well as my shrubmod folder (which this server uses), hope it works for ya, I use it all the time

my fav line of my config is this

bind MWHEELDOWN "set sens_s vstr sens_01;exec long.cfg; echo ^3LONG"
bind MWHEELUP "set sens_s vstr sens_00;exec close.cfg; echo ^6CLOSE"

close shots wheel down, goes to fov 105, sensitivity 3.5, far shots wheel up goes to fov 90, sensitivity .9 better acc, takes a while to get used to I'm a arrow player too :P

My total config

wait vstr binds work in shrub?? How come it doesnt ever work for me? my slow fire script never worked... I had to learn how to aim all over again back in may when i came back into wolf

(changes the sens from when im shooting to when im not shooting)

// Slowfire Script 1 (SHORT RANGE)

// Normal Mouse Settings

set NormalMouse "set m_pitch 0.015001; set m_yaw 0.022; cg_crosshairColorAlt "red"; set sensitivity 2.5"

// Mouse settings while shooting

set SlowMouse "set m_pitch 0.015001; set m_yaw 0.022; cg_crosshairColorAlt "purple"; set sensitivity 2"

// Toggle

set ShootFast "-attack; vstr NormalMouse"
set ShootSlow "+attack; vstr SlowMouse"

vstr NormalMouse // Set sensativity to normal
bind MOUSE1 "+vstr ShootSlow ShootFast"

// End Cfg

// Zoom Bind

bind MWHEELDOWN "cg_fov 105; cg_crosshairSize 24; cg_crosshairColorAlt "red"; exec slowfire1.cfg; echo ^yUN^7ZOOM ^7+ ^4SlowFire"
bind MWHEELUP "cg_fov 90; cg_crosshairSize 24; cg_crosshairColorAlt "blue"; exec slowfire2.cfg; echo ^zZOOM ^7+ ^4SlowFire"

You can't change the com_maxfps cvar without a restart. It's a latched cvar. It's not a shrub thing, it's in RTCW itself.

I think earlier versions of Wolf let you let you change it without a restart. It was changed in 1.4 to prevent exploits.

forcefps was something in OSP only.

its all about magic numbers..

43, 76, 125, 333, 500 (not sure about the last one) - by capping at one of these numbers you get better shit, and the higher the number the better that shit is. For example if i cap at any of these numbers i can jump onto boxes...this can be a really important thing. Along with this, i can jump further, generally move faster, and sometimes most importantly, my gun shoots faster. Thats why there was an fps cap at 125 on servers b/c the advantage of someone say at 333 fighting someone at 43 was way dramatic - even if the 43 was a better shot he could still get destroyed more than not by someone 333'ing b/c they are faster moving and shoot faster.

In my case where i can get 125 for the most part in the basement or inside compared to getting low 40's to 30's when im outside, it would be important for me to be able to cap my fps at 43 when im outside so that i can jump onto boxes or generally move faster, shoot faster than i would if my fps was floating around in the 40's

I think this is one of the small areas when 1.3 trumps 1.4. Partly because you can set your fps to 43 when sniping but then immediately set it to 125 when your done. Instead of doing a vid restart, and waiting 15 seconds while your team is being raged from behind cuz your floating away in cyber lag or losing the match. And usually the first vid restart doesn't completely restart so its normally after the second or third time is when the settings i want are implemented. For me at least.

It's not so much of an exploit as using configs that let an mp40/sten beat a sniper on a map. That is bs imo because the gunner is shooting a black dot... Don't give me, "its skill" that is an exploit. And if you dont think so, play on a default config and tell me the sten or mp40 will win, it's nearly impossible to see the sniper from that distance ie. sniper hill. But i guess we all have to keep up with the Johnsons. :rant:

I think this is one of those times where I normally say... screw it, I'll just get used to playing the entire game under the same setup at all times.
