Personally, I played with 398 for a few years.. Sucked ass...

Anyways, I agree that Cubes is very hard to hit, and for a high ping, has very quick reactions, even when the server was unlag off.

As for the whole not coming around when the server is loaded.. I prefer smaller groups myself. Easier on the connection/pc.

I don't think it was ever profitable. They had huge problems even back as early as 2005/6 as I remember trying to find someone to host it. It's not like there were adverts everywhere, maybe if there had been it would still be up.

Yes indeed, unfortunately marketing was not the strong suit. You can have the best product in the world but without proper marketing it will never sell. Had they promoted with ID or evenbalance they likely would still be going today, possibly even better than before.
