WOLFENSTEIN BETA Played it
Well I played the beta last night all maps. First impression was the game speed seemed to be fine very close to RTCW, but suddenly it started to feel very Call Of Duty Like and that annoyed me. All weapons can look down the sight by pressing a key, just as you can in COD. This is very different than shooting from the hip as we are all used to from RTCW. IMO it changes the flow and feel of the game too much, thus making it feel like COD.
I thought RTCW was unique in the fact that it felt a bit arcade-ish and not so realistic. From what I can tell no cooking of grenades as you have to press a key to throw a nade. The VIEL stuff seems interesting believe it or not but haven’t quite figured out how to use it much yet. If this is a beta then I guess I’m happy. If this is final I can only hope it will grow on me. I will be playing some more tonight before I just write it off...
IT'S not RTCW but the jury is still OUT!!!!

Re: WOLFENSTEIN BETA Played it
I couldn't really see the point of the veil. Seemed to make everything go blue and that was about it. I'm guessing there will be features but in the beta seemed like a waste of time. Also did they really need to set it as the default for about 5 keys, kind of ramming it down your throat.
It has some other pointless irritations: The fact that 'mouse inverted' was the default (oh so dumb) the absence of a lean ability and the fact that low mouse sensitivity was still jerky in the extreme spring to mind. I also though that the character avatars were too small relative to the landscape so that you were effectively looking for a tiny amount of movement amidst a whol clutter of background objects.
I'd say the rifles were unplayable but if they are anything like in CoD2 then you get used to them eventually and they can be deadly. I'd like to see the rifle damage upped to compensate though tbh because with the sprint speed so high and the relative accuracy of the smgs they'll be no point learning to rifle as you'll be unlikely to score more than one hit unless they are standing still...
I thought the game play was kind of jerky. Reminded me of MoHAA multiplayer really rather than CoD, although they definately nicked most of the features from CoD.
I don't like the money. It's going to lead to upgrades some of which will inevitably be overpowered and will cause imbalance. I'd rather it wasn't there...
Like you I think most of the problems were down to it being a beta. It seemed rough around the edges. As long as they smooth it out then it will be quite playable. Nothing like rtcw but nevertheless quite playable.
I'll give it a 5/10 at the momment but could go up to a 7.5/10 if they listened to what the beta testers must have told them.
Hopefully it will be a financial success and they can then make a wolf 3 which doesn't use the bottom of the bucket game engine that this one has.

From what most people are saying is that they should just make a game using a Quake 3 engine, quit the "realistic" bullshit that many games these days are moving towards, and just get back to the basics (i.e. classes, movements, physics, etc.)
Have that many game developers really felt they need to complicate the game play this much, and to what ends?

I'd go along with that the Q3 engine was a great engine. There's really no need to see dust particles coming up from elegantly waving grass while you are trying to twat someone in the face with a panzerfaust...
The trouble is what is good for multiplayer won't sell them video games. The poncy graphics on the music video they laughably call a trailer is what sells the game.

So, it's like how gamecat makes more money doing gay porn rather than be normal and fuck girls for a living, despite lower pay...
got it.
