RTCW Cup: The Reich Strikes Back!
"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..."

Nope! It is going to happen again right here and right now! We are happy to announce the upcoming Return to Castle Wolfenstein Cup: The Reich Strikes Back and see as many teams as possible whambamshazam each other on the battlefield.
With the RTCW Alliance Cup being a success, the people behind the cup have decided to host another edition. This time your admin team will be (Netherlands) bully, (USA) Virus047, (USA) Gut, (United Kingdom) Lasher (Netherlands) adeto. They will do their very best to create another great tournament and an as joy full as possible experience for teams, players and of course the loyal viewers over at WarWitchTV!
As in the previous tournament, we will start off with a group stage. Aiming for sixteen teams, we will have four groups of four, one of which will hold the North American teams. Unlike the previous tournament though, we have decided to have forced maps during the groups. This way we can see all maps of the pool being played, instead of good old Village and Ice all the time. This is where we take the jump to the schedule, as that will also reveal the maps for each match week!
---
---
Now to the rules, we took a good look at the rules again with last tournament in mind and some rules have changed. Some changes have been made to the server config as well: cg_shadows is now forced to 0, cg_autoaction is now forced to 7 and pmove_fixed is forced to 0 as well. We highly recommend teamc aptains and players to check the new rule pages and if they have any questions, or suggestions, to message an admin. A big thing we want to put out there as an admin team, is that the rules are only there to fall back to if trouble occurs and we hope teams and players can find solutions together where possible!
Click here to find the rulebook!
For now we have said all that we want to say, if there are any questions feel free to message one of the admins on irc, ask them for a talk on teamspeak3 or message Virus047 at: Virus047.STA@gmail.com as he is our rules expert and will most likely be able to answer most questions!

Re: RTCW Cup: The Reich Strikes Back!
Add me to the individual-looking-for-a-team list! I played the first Anniversary Cup last year, and got destroyed by some teams that did nothing but practice, find the "sweet spots"/glitches on each map, and basically play Wolf unlike any pub round you've ever played. Zero fun, all serious. If this is NOT like that, I'm in!
Re: RTCW Cup: The Reich Strikes Back!
Playing in cups (OSP) is everytime like that. The players are very experienced and use all of the bugs of the game to win the round. Also it can be very fun for you. Just get better
BTW: Playing in wars is totally different than on pub. Public has nothing to do with playing seriously :)

Re: RTCW Cup: The Reich Strikes Back!
Pub mentality and way of playing is completely unsuited for wars. Everything perceived weak or in some cases regulated is considered a standard practice as well as endorsed in wars- this includes corner camping, spawn raping etc..
If you go half ars banging to a competitive cup you'll find your self in a world of pain as they're serious about it. It's fun in its own way, as long as you have a well tuned team and are able to accept and adjust to a different game flow. If not, you're better of staying on pub.
Anyway, gl with the cup! :)

Re: RTCW Cup: The Reich Strikes Back!
As I've said before you guys playing in ECGN fantasy land (even though it's the only good pub server) aren't even playing real RTCW. You are playing a fantasy version with short spawn times, limited lives and some other shrub shit. EurO that is the game. If you don't like the serious aspect of it then just stick to ECGN.
Re: RTCW Cup: The Reich Strikes Back!
what r u saying wolfy, real rtcw? pretty sure everyone who plays ecgn is playing on wolfenstein... and i don't see the harm in ecgn'ers wanting to play in the cup its more fun for everyone, sure some take it more serious than others but it is a game and you're just meant to have fun on it.
sure maybe ecgn has shortened spawn times and all that stuff doesn't mean they aren't playing "real" rtcw. OSP is a mod too are you gonna say that since OSP is a mod you're not playing wolfenstein either?
we all love RtCW, don't we? i mean the master server has been down for 2 years now and we're still kickin! i wouldn't bash anyone for wanting to play rtcw since it really is one of the best FPS games ever created. modded or not!
i play shrub, osp, banimod, 1.0, 1.4, all that shit because i love this game, so don't bash someone for not playing a mod that you play and call him out on not playing "real" rtcw

Re: RTCW Cup: The Reich Strikes Back!
Sounds like an OSP wanker being snobbish about his beloved mod at the expense of the inferior Shrub nubs. Careful you don't vanish up your own arse Wolfy.
Re: RTCW Cup: The Reich Strikes Back!
I think there's no problem with "llamas" in a cup. They will see how different it is and they won't get out of spwn. Their matches will be fast, but will learn something. I think the more teams, the better for the scene.
Also, let me inform you: I used to play in some teams callad llamas by some many years ago, finally beating up the scene (or at least big parts of the scene :D) within a half year or so. Everything is possible. The so called proish can sometimes be very stupid and lose, also llamas can shine if they take it more seriously than an avrg pub. Much depends on morale, it isn't just the practice and knowledge that counts.
An invitation: I don't hit sht, but I'd be glad to be part of any llama team. I don't fit the proish anymore for many reasons, but if eg Euro can get 4 more, I'm into it. But be prepared: it takes time and effort. Without these it's just useless pain.

Re: RTCW Cup: The Reich Strikes Back!
+1, just to motivate the non proish:
As I see there are not many new ideas in rtcw playing nowadays. Ppl. know the usual places, situations, timings. The scene is missing radical ideas, like defending Assault using 6 snipers and such (yes we managed!). The "newbs" can bring many ideas (even if they just don't work :D), surprising the pros. BUT: basics must be known. Those who don't even know eg. how much time a route takes on each map are quite hopeless.
BTW: source, if you're reading it: could you come up with something against the "abusive flame" on villa? ;) (a noob tactics, that works)

Re: RTCW Cup: The Reich Strikes Back!
There's no new tactic to discover. Everything that could be used, was used so there's no surprise element in that one. Only real tactic undetermined is to figure out what tactic will the other team apply, that's about it. Rest just relies on brute force and team's ability to adjust and exploit weaknesses of the other team.

'L0, wrote:There's no new tactic to discover.
HOHOHOHO :D You've just shown one weakness of the so called proish :D You're making me motivated to collect a noob team and show you this and that. :D Are you going to join the cup?
Mkay, I know it's just rtcw-in-words, but let me assure you: I've learned a lot from awkward ideas, sometimes I did the math, and I know a couple forgotten, barely used, but many times nicely working tricks. And I very much love when the so called proish lose their nerves and can't solve an unorthodox situation. You shouldn't think that all tricks are already invented. There are many possibilities in rtcw and the best teams and best people will find these, all the rest is just for all the rest :) Eg. the above mentioned flamer thingie is a simple setup, invented (and mathematically calculated) by HWF Vampire or HWF Kowa (don't remember sry :d), you don't see it used properly on matches, I've seen it only in two teams (both I was part of). And it _ALWAYS_ worked, could surprise a quite a few people who you'd call proish. Anyhow, GL, HF, opinions exist to differ in something ;)

Re: RTCW Cup: The Reich Strikes Back!
Barely forgotten or rarely used != new tactics, thus, it's not even a debate to start with.
And no, I wont play, 1) I simply don't have the time and 2) Since last decade I can't hit an elephant 2 feet away.
But anyway, this is a cup topic so I wont hijack it (again).

Re: RTCW Cup: The Reich Strikes Back!
i think the same like wolfy! shrub is not the real comp rtcw that we all know from the past. out
Re: RTCW Cup: The Reich Strikes Back!
Teams still have about a week to signup for the cup. :) If your a player who is clanless try to organize with other clanless players and together form a team. I know of a few NA based clanless players who might be looking still for a team.

It has nothing to do with mods. I'm just saying the settings that exist on ECGN I don't consider real RTCW. Even in the early days before OSP came out we were still playing "real" competitive RTCW. But all the shortened spawn times, limited lives and whatever shrub stuff I don't consider to be real RTCW. It's a fantasy land version, but at the same time I realize it's all that's left of the game so it's better than nothing. But to me, no, I don't consider ECGN to be real RTCW. I didn't consider OLTL to be real RTCW either, and the 3v3 games that the Euros love nowadays is not real RTCW to me either. You can call me an elitist I suppose but I don't care. Shrub has good anti-lag that I wish existed in OSP so I am not anti-shrub, I'm just anti-fantasy pub settings.
This message was mainly directed at EurO who stated "I played the first Anniversary Cup last year, and got destroyed by some teams that did nothing but practice, find the "sweet spots"/glitches on each map, and basically play Wolf unlike any pub round you've ever played. Zero fun, all serious." Well wake up because THAT IS THE GAME. If you don't like the competition aspect that's fine, but stick to ECGN pub land if you don't want any part of serious competition.
Also I agree with everything that 'L0, said. Any decent team that is playing in the cup all do the same strategies. The strategic element and spontaneity of RTCW vanished long ago. The current competition all comes down to execution and Euros being lamers like KiH turning off antilag against Unity. But I'm not going to get into that. After playing in this previous cup I'm done because the Euros play dirty and I'm not participating in their biased cups again.
