Enabling Map Voting

Postby Disco Biscuits » Thu May 22, 2014 11:30 pm

Hi All,

I'd like to first off say thanks for the server and all the hard work that goes behind it. It's very much appreciated and I think I can speak for everyone as far as that.

That being said, would you guys considering enabling map voting when an admin is not going to be around for a bit? And then disable map voting when an admin returns? Not sure if server requires a reboot or not to enable/disable. I don't remember it needing a restart.

Not always, but there are extended periods of time when an admin is not around- and I get that. By no means are you expected to always be around. However, it's no fun to have the server sitting on beach all day long or for the weekend. The majority of the community seems to get bored of beach rather quickly. There are a lot of good maps out there to be played.

Also, Ive noticed during peak times when its near 15 on 15 - Beach is just hard to play. Its a nade/panz/TK fest mostly when theres that many players. It would be nice to be able to change to a bigger map if need be.

I feel that the community has matured a lot and there is a lot of good wolf etiquette that has been adopted by most . Let's be honest, by 'matured' I mean anyone who is still playing, simply loves it and I think we can all get a long and decide on a good map to play without changing it mid round. Unless we're changing it off of beach mid round, that is.. I think at this point map voting would not be harmful to game play and can be easily agreed on amongst the people that are playing.

If we enabled map voting then the usual assholes (you know who you are) would vote to change the map mid round every time they are getting owned or on the losing team and ruin the server. At least that's how I see it.

Couldn't you just increase the number of votes required to pass? That should solve that problem.

It won't be enabled for other reasons, not to limit your map choices.

Default
- Everyone gets 3 votes
- 50% to pass
- Vote can be overridden with suicide kills

Afaik shrub doesn't address first two settings at all, but 3rd should be fixed in 1.4. There's also additional problem, I dunno if shrub fixed it but there's a callvote exploit where one can exploit callvotes and call vote on anything..even change rcon password etc..and afaik it's not picked up by PB at all.

If it's an issue of a minority abusing the voting system, then employ admins to warn then ban them; problem solved. We need diff maps!

Damn I'm sorry I didn't mean for it to sound like that the voting abuse was the only reason why voting is disabled. I was just writing my reason for keeping it disabled. Ultimately it's MAA's server so he can do with it as he pleases obviously.

Why mess with a good thing?

I can understand the reluctancy to allow idiots to ruin games by allowing votes- but I think that is far outweighed by the boredom of playing beach over and over and over and over and over again with no admin. Obviously it's MAA's server and his call, but I think it's healthy to express an opinion.

I don't think this is really a good attitude to have. Its sort of like a "fuck you, your input/opinion means nothing".

This late in the game, any changes that can be beneficial to game play should be evaluated. Especially if it can help maintain and increase traffic on the server.

Keep in mind that my original recommendation was aimed towards enabling votes while when an Admin leaves, based on the fact that admins are not always around. Again, I thank you for your card work and moderation. But if one of you is simply doing their thing, there is no reason we should be stuck on Beach for the day.

ABT- In the IT world, we live by it. Always be Testin'. I keep hearing this "oh the usually baddies are going to ruin the server by calling map votes mid round". Theres enough tweaks that can be made to make this work. Lets test this theory. I think enabling map votes for a few days to see how it runs is worth a shot.

Attitude? It's a 24/7 beach server, from what I understand it has always been and always will be a 24/7 beach server but I haven't been around as long as most of you guys. Like I said it's his server and he has his reasons whatever they might be.

I think you have a better shot of asking to have an additional ECGN Rotation Server deployed than enabling voting on the beach server. Then you would be able to choose which server you want to play on but most likely it would just divide the players since half agree with you and the other half prefer beach.

If you notice when the server fills up is when it goes into a rotation, I don't think any one wants to pub 5vs5 base, chateau, etc. at least not on shrub that's what osp is for.

Would putting the server on a map rotation solve this problem? I know there is an ECGN OSPx server that is on a rotation running 1.42. I am willing to play on that one if others are.
