well I always heard it was in production and rumors, and what have you. so a few days ago I finally decided to research it myself. its in the making which makes me happy haha. and I will be saving my pennies for a new rig.

I heard that it wont take too long to make the game because the makers have gone pro with the doom 3 engine. 06 or 07. :D

I've used Windows Movie Maker to make movies (like my warcraft movie), as it is free and came with my computer. It was kinda basic and slow, but it gets the job done. The Wolf movie was made with VisualStudio 8, which I got for free (was $100 when new), and its more efficient. Both are pretty intuitive, as I was clueless before I tried em.

To capture the vids, get something like Fraps. Takes tons of disk space tho to capture, as maybe 2-3 mins of raw footage takes about a gig.

And we've played against each other more than you've realized :P I don't have a set name (even this one started as an alias, friends from other servers know me as different names).

Thanks for the comments guys!

Edit: And Cavalier, if you ever find out wth theyre using over at that site, let me know. Maybe if its not too complex or works with existing demos, I'd be able to try it out.

Give me a link or description of one the files on own-age.com that you consider good and I'll check it out. The few that I looked at were pretty much the basic quality that everyone has.One thing to consider though, just looking quickly at a few other clips:

A lot of people make their movie from a stationary camera viewpoints as much a possible (ie, a 3rd person view).
The view from the 1st person perspective is either going to require a much higher bitrate or it's going to lose a lot of detail. I assume you're using two pass encoding, with Variable Bit Rate (VBR). The way compression works, it doesn't have store all the information for a picture that has very little changing. For example, a clip of a person sitting and talking would require much less data as very little would change in 90% of the frame, just the persons mouth moving and a little movement of the head typically. A clip of an action packed sequence would require more data as there's stuff flying all over the screen, high amounts of movement and such. In a typical movie there's mostly low motion activity and some high motion activity. VBR goes through and figures out where to use the data total you've alloted to it, using a higher datarate during high motion scenes, lower datarates during low motion scenes. When you make a movie of a videogame from a first person perspective it absolutely maxes out the amount of motion on the screen. Every turn of the head is like having the camerca pan left and right, very quickly. Running down a hall is causing virtually every frame of video to be completely different than the last frame. When you go to a 3rd person view with limited motion of the 'camera' so to speak, the background is staying the same, just a small amount of the screen is changing from the people running around killing, maiming and such. So, it's either higher datarate/bigger file for all 1st person view, or keep the same file size and lose some detail. It's all a trade off.
Also, crucial is source material. The better the source material, the better the encoded about. This is HUGE. Some of the movies you have seen may have been first rendered out 1024x768 with great detail first, then encoded and resized smaller.

So how would I convert my Demos that i have taken so that it can play it in media player / movie maker? Or do i need to record the demo's differently to begin with?

Try any of the 'top 10 Most Downloaded Videos'. I've seen most of em, some impresive ones include:

Annihilation video (290mb)
http://www.own-age.com/vids/video.aspx?id=660

The Badge (160mb)
http://www.own-age.com/vids/video.aspx?id=248

Annihilation is the most popular dl and it is incredible. Personally tho, I love The Badge's editing and effects, and its smaller (and shorter) too. It seems like in all of them too, they are able to rotate the camera, juice up the graphics, remove console, etc. It seems incredible to me that a video with such crisp quality can be so small.

I made two, and the size = big but it was when I first started learning how to compress videos.
