Christ now we have to open up this can of worms. The big bang is just a theory but a theory that has evidence to support it. It is accepted as common knowledge in this day and age. Every single star that we know of is getting farther away from us so if you go back in time then that must mean there geting closer together. What was before the big bang? According to almost all scientests that believe in the big bang nothing. There was nothing no time or space excisted. It didnt explode into empty space there was no space or time until that day. Hard to believe no? but thats what it is. Now if you want to get into the, there must of been something before that then your entering the string theory scene and thats the next level you might not be ready for that. M theory, String theory, didn't want to get into that because it makes less sense than it does making sense. The idea of floating membranes, and strings holding universes to the floating membranes, sounds like crack ideas.

Time is a measurement yes, but it had to originate from somewhere, just as space and matter did. But you cannot measure something (time) from nothing (void). Same way you cannot divide by 0. So if there was absolutely nothing before the big bang, time would be immeasurable but more importantly it would be meaningless.

ok but size and distance have starting/reference points as does time... Time had no reference point before the big bang. So it did not exist. Either way at one point in time the clock had to start at 00.00.
