Of course you are Glitch.

btw great article you found Weezy, explains a lot.

I thought this was an interesting point:

"Personally, I believe there's hardly a problem when all the players in a game are pinging within 100ms of each other. That describes most casual and almost all competitive games. The remaining casual games can handle a larger ping spread easily. It's the competitive games in which the ping spread is greater than 100ms that you start having fairness issues."

I'm sure that 80% of the regulars at ECGN are within my incredible ping of 20-40.
That eases my guilt a little.

If this is right people will be calling bullshit on you, if they believe 100% they are right does it make it true?

P.S I think this is meant for Quake 3 issues, but both games are built on the same engine, (I think) so the rules still apply. :red:

Nice link.

HaHaHaHa! Nice one. :drink: :oreo: :badger:
Really, that was funny as a stand alone comment.

Good link weezy. Read that one recently too trying to decipher why some players are so warpy/laggy. One thing is still not clear to me: how much -timenudge for what ping. I've heard some people say they don't even bother. I've heard some people say -50 no matter what. I had mine set to -20 with a roughly 90 ping. Thoughts?

Edit: OK a few people have said 1/4 of your ping as a rule. Thanks!

Hope that link cleared some stuff up.

Leafy, as far as the timenudge deal goes, I really am not the person to talk to. I tried messing with it a couple of times but with so many different variables, (lag spikes, fps drops, downloading pron) Its really hard for me to visualize how cl_timenudge affects my shot.

BUT i think someone who has good insight might be jinx. Partly because he is a euro and imo he has a good shot with his ping. And i know he uses timenudge. (He also knows alot about this sort of stuff) So maybe if he would troll around here he could help you out.

I remember Wolfencrap once posted on the =TAO= board about timenudge and several other cvars, etc. etc.. It included picture representation and such.. I think it's lost in one of the recent archive deletions, but I'll try to dig it up if it's still there.

As for Twitch's comment to Warpig.. I'll answer..
No.. it doesn't make it true.. get it all the time though..

And Yes, I'll continue to share the love.:badger:

Thanks Fless. That'd be cool if ya found it. Don't think there's much about timenudge here, but when I started playing this most excellent game, these were great resources for me:

Great place for a n00b like me to start. Might be helpful to others too. Back in the BBS days we used to help people. Thanks to the helpful people here. I smell a Wumpus.

So where does one get the allowable server settings? Not the PB settings. The server settings can override some PB settings. Nobody can do any major tweaking without the maximum server allowable settings (all of them).....which should be posted as a sticky.

Headshot, when you are on the server type in console:
/pb_cvarlist
that will give you ecg settings and limits.

I know I can do that, but it's a lot easier to post them so a person can copy/paste them for reference while setting the config file. When I was with ND80 we did that. It's a nice convenience. Just a thought.....

=TAO=WARPIG wrote:OK I'm buying the fastest computer available today so I can tweak things to what the average player can't....yeah that's fair. As you stated "if you can get faster rates then you might as well do it".

This is why config changes....

of course you like your field of view at 103, why wouldn't you, because of this change you now have a better view than anyone with a lower rate.
A noob ain't gonna have any clue about this. A lot of noobs would give up playing all together and I'm sure that many have.
So in a way YES it is borderline hacking.

This is probably one of the main reasons that pc games are dying and consoles are taking over, won't be any cfg changing on your Xbox360 or PS3.
This sucks because the pc is by far the best platform.

As for Gamb, I think he may have a case with his "un-hittable hacks", I've experienced it and so have many others. A 15 year old kid can hack into the Pentagon but they can't figure out how to fuck with an 8 year old game?

Your complaint sounds like a noob's to a degree. Until I learned of config changes like "field of view" my computer performance (video, broadband connection, etc.) gave me a brick wall to game play improvement. I must have Config tweaks to feel successful.

Btw I haven't read this entire thread - I just want to put in my two cents. Thanks.
