Make sure to bring lots of med packs, our 64 player beach server is intense!

Obviously...you don't know how to use search function. There are other threads with the same tired old arguments about rotation...
It's not gonna happen...need I say more?

Yeah... lots of threads over a year old where someone suggests a rotation and a couple people with admin say "it's been tried, it doesn't work".
So when was the last time it was 'tried'? Over a year ago?

They really aren't.
Make an OSP server and see what happens. It will be mostly empty. ECGN has people in it all the time.

1. Map rotation leads to a mostly empty server. It just does. Noone wants to play on an empty server. Don't get me wrong...I would like a map rotation. But more than that, I like having people on the server to play against.
I'm trying to keep this game alive as long as possible and rotation is not going to achieve that. When there are enough players on the server that want to play another map, we change the map.
2. The majority of the players on this server come to play their favorite map, Beach. I think it has become a 'comfort zone' for the more casual gamers who just want to relax and escape real life for a little while. (I suspect the same is true for HP with Depot)
This is further evidenced by the fact that these are the only 2 remaining 1.41 servers that still get any significant amount of players. (At least in the U.S.) Both of which are '1 map' servers. In other words, this is the formula that 'works' for the majority of players.
If you don't agree and you really believe that a rotation is what people want, go ahead set up a rotating server and see how many players you get to come to it daily.
3. We've been running a not totally stable test build of shrubmod that Ryan Mannion (Shrub) had built for us back when he was part of the ECGN team. It has some features and fixes that are not in the 3.1.1 build...mostly notably the fixed 'late join' feature (that assigns a new player a number of lives based on the time remaining in the round) and secondly shrubbot which is what parses all those commands that start with !, like !listplayers, etc.
The test build of the mod also put in a couple of bugs that make the server hiccup occassionaly. If you've been around a while, I'm sure you've seen the 'Server Disconnected' message when everyone is kicked. The server does not crash totally..the mod just restarts. A map rotation would NOT restart when this happens and so you'd end up stuck on whatever map is on during the 'crash.' Then you're looking at '24/7 Tram' or '24/7 Trenchtoast'. Yeah...those maps will keep people on the server.
So, the choice is either go back to the old 3.1.1 build so we can have a boring empty rotating server OR we can keep the 3.2 build that has the features we actually use and want here (and also sets us apart from all of the other RTCW that ever were online) It's a no-brainer.
As far as getting a fixed or update 3.2 build, that's not going to happen either. I believe Ryan (Shrub) past away last year and I don't believe anyone else has the code to continue devrlopment on it.
Hope this clears up the issue of why 'it's not gonna happen'

things haven't changed to that extent but have still changed. i come from osp and probably wouldn't play on a server if it was put up because it would most likely be an east server and i am in california. central maybe.
i agree that osp probably wouldnt work, but ecgn is the last server left and i think there should be a rotation. why not just try a rotation for like a week? if it doesnt work you could just change it back and no harm done.

We did try that...Didn't work...Led to empty server...so it was changed back. This has been discussed and tried a couple times already. I'm not making this shit up. You act like noone ever thought of or considered this here. You also act like we never play other maps on the server when in fact we do switch the map every day.
Like I said...if you think it will work, go ahead and set up a rotating server for yourself. Good luck.

Are you kidding me? He seemed liked a pretty good guy judging from both his posts here and on Somethingawful. That's too bad to hear.

In all honesty the server gets more map changes now than I can ever remember in the past. Personally I like beach but I do like to change it up for you all when asked and a majority wants it. I think it's a good thing to leave it up to the admin for map changes. Not that I like playing god but when numbers on beach are high it's good to change it up. When numbers get low it's good to go back to beach and let the server gain some more people then try changing again.
Sad part is I change the map I get bitched at. I don't change it I get bitched at. I shuffle I get bitched at. First off I ask wtf is wrong with some of you. Seriously though if you come play latenight you will probably get to play diff maps and if teams get too stacked it will be shuffled. I/we can't make everyone happy all the time but I promise I/we will try to cater to everyones likes at some point during any given night. I'm not on allday long but it seems every morning super is changing maps, in the evening pooty is mixing it up and latenight me or b are changing it. I will admit I usually go 1 round per map but that's usually because alot are screaming "next map!" after one round.

Oh that's why there weren't anymore Shurbmod 3.2 versions at all and I can't find that update at all to keep most of the good mods in storage. ECGN does use the Shrubmod Test 5 that has been a bit buggy at times, the late Ganja Palace uses the Shrubmod Test 3 which is less buggy.
I didn't know the one of the Shrub developers passed away last year. May he R.I.P.

two or three people will always bitch at anything you do but the other 20 or so players appreciate it or just don't give a fuck. but you will never hear them say something like 'I'm content' or 'I feel satisfied with your decision'. Silence is gratitude.

Your right twitch, to be fair I do get people that thank me for map changes and/or shuffle. It's those few people that never seem to be happy no matter what you do that irks me a bit. In the end though I want the osp players here, I want the 1.3 guys, I want the HP guys here and I also want to keep the old beach faithfull. I just want the game to last forever as I'm sure most of us do. So we will try to make all happy some of the time to accomplish this. Like I said I like beach but to keep you all around I change maps. If I can take the good with the bad for the sake of the game I'm sure you all can too.
