If you are using WinXP, boot off the install CD and do a "repair" install. It will fix any corrupt or missing files, and keep all your old settings and files.

Also, get one of those small APC UPS's. It cleans up the mains and protects the computers from outages. It comes with a small program that automatically hibernates or shuts the puter down on a long outage. CompUSA and Bestbuy have them on sale all the time, cheap.

Good investment.

Good luck.

i bought a cheap one and it can't hold my computer up for 30 seconds :)

if i had more outlets i'd put just the comp on it but i also have the monitor and a couple other things on it.

Either i have too much plugged in or the cheap ones
blow :)
