Pre-Banned?

Postby IIVXTII » Sat Aug 02, 2008 9:13 pm

Hello everyone- I seem to have a problem with the.... 4th RTCW game ive purchased in my life. Went to gamestop and bought my current copy- 1 of 2, the very last physical copies in the Houston area from what gamestop is aware of.

I can join certain servers- not all, and some of them Ive already been banned. I attempted to join ECG server and as soon as the loading is done and the limbo comes up- takes me back to menu screen with error claiming I was banned for punk buster violation. (yes, its turned on)

Is there anyway to change this? I bought the "Platinum" edition of wolfenstein.

Update punkbuster using this tool... That should do the work, if not you could get the game off steam

Go to your rtcw main folder and open the file called 'rtcwkey' make sure the key there matches the one on your box. Pretty often it puts in a default key that for obvious reasons is banned everywhere.

GAH! FINALLY!! Thank you so much, you were dead on, solved the problem. I had been fooling with punk buster for HOURS!!. I had a problem earlier where i could not even "Enable" punkbuster- so after 3 hours of trying to "update it" just reinstalled and voila no more problem.

But yes I can finally enjoy this game- So many late night xbox live sessions Ive had with tides of war- Ive tried multiple times to play RTCW since then(NOT ET!) Once my xbox broke. I even bought the ps2 version which... jesus christ its ugly- cant even play it its so ugly (no online too)

FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY!

Thanks again parrot!

Sorry to exploit you as such parrot- but I have further need for your RTCW knowledge if possible- PUNK BUSTER

I mentioned previously- When I attempt to Enable punkbuster via the tab in the server-browsing area, it flat out WONT change from disabled to Enabled.
After messing with punk-buster for 3 hours, updating it- re-installing it<< doing everything I could find on the internet- i decided to just reinstall RTCW.
Which worked!!

But after playing on a server or two, turning off my computer and then turning on to play again a few hours later--- the problem has arisen again. At the moment I am currently re-installing RTCW for a 2nd time, and I intend to turn on PB via console "/pb_cl_enable"

I could of sworn I read last night, clicking on the PB tab in the first place will somehow screw it up later.

I love this game too much to give up- I greatly appreciate any help you can provide.

Open game to the Main Menu. Bring down console and type:

/seta cl_punkbuster 1

Restart game.

To reinstall Punkbuster:

Go into your RTCW folder and delete the 'pb' folder.

Download PBSetup (Punkbuster Update Tool) from here:

http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

Point it to your RTCW directory and it should download and install the latest version.

I am hearing of this problem a lot, it seems as though you can't re-install and run RTCW mp unless you download the set-up tool. Which is a great thing to have anyway since it has all the updates for many different games and installs them automatically.

On a different note: I've heard a few others say that they are having the same problem as me. After a map change I will sometimes lose my cf. Everytime this happens it creates a new shrub folder. At one point I had 6 different shrub folders. The only folder I should have is the one titled "Shrubmod". Anyone have an idea why this is happening?

if you just play here, war delete all the shrubs but shrubmod, and make an autoexec file thats in your shrubmod folder and your main

I only get diff shrubs if i play on diff folders

Did you mean "diff servers"?
ECG is the only server I go to, it's making new folders when the map changes. I have an autoexec file in my main that only has this: "set devdll 1"
in it. Is that normal?
My Shrubmod folder does not have an autoexec file just a "wolfconfig-mp config-auto-file".
My Main folder also has one of those along with the autoexec file I mentioned above.
Anyway it's just a minor annoyance that I can live with, wolf is worth it. I thought that there was a possibility that it was server related, I think Y-chick said that she was having cf trouble after map changes but I may be mistaken about whether it was her or not. Like I said don't sweat it, I can live with it.Thanks for the help.

To avoid that, make sure the settings in the wolfconfig_mp in both your 'Main' and your 'shrubmod' folder are the same.

I suspect you have some differences with your settings between the 2 configs, which will only reveal themselves on map changes/reconnects/vid_restarts, etc.

It is normal to just have that one line in the autoexec file and your shrubmod folder should not have an autoexec.

Thanks MAA, can I copy and paste the wolfconfig-mp of my shrumod folder into the wolfconfig-mp of the Main? I was thinking of doing that last week but I was afraid it might mess the whole game up.

Yeah you can do that, just make sure the settings in your shrubmod one are the ones you want.

Just make a backup copy of the one in your Main folder before you overwrite it (just in case)

thanks a lot. I will do that, thx for reminding me to make a backup copy as well, I probably would have forgot to do that.
