Possible exploit or maybe not...who knows

Postby aphid » Fri Apr 11, 2003 6:03 pm

When I was playing today, I saw someone call out short in blue letters. So the team went down the Radio Stairs to cut the documents carrier off. The documents went long and the allies won. During the warm up I said someone called short on axis. It was really no big deal to me. I've made that mistake before too. However, some of the allies were laughing that we went short. They said the person was not on my team and I said the letters were blue though. I was then called a "newbie" because I forgot you could change your chat colors to blue. So, it turns out that the person who called short was not on our team and that he was on the allies.

I think this needs to be changed. It's like a cheat and is unfair as you really don't know if they are on your team or not. Both teams depend on chat to know where to go and what to do. If you have opposing teams faking team chat, you really can't trust any chat besides players calling for medics and ammo. Some of the people who play this game never cease to amaze me how lame they are.

Disinformation is a tool of war. Good luck trying to police it.

It doesn't bother me that much but it seems like something that should be looked at. I've seen people doing this before too. Docs were going long and the "team" was calling short. I went short as did team and no one was there. Allies won. Figured it was a mistake but thought oh well. Now I know what happened. It doesn't matter if you won't do it again though, there is some players out there who will do that every chance they get. I never even thought of changing my text to blue to call out misleading directions. I would never do it either but I bet we'll see people using it more now because they saw someone else do it. Monkey see, monkey do. Hope I am wrong on that one though. This is just a game and I do like to win but it's okay when my team loses too. I just don't like losing when cheap things like that go on. Takes a little bit of fun out of the game.

I could care less about the newbie comment also. I only mentioned that because I thought it was that guy who called out short. Whoever uses the word newbie to try and insult someone has other problems going on in their life.

Disinformation is a tool of war. Good luck trying to police it.

Know that would come up. This is a game, Osprey.

Hey, check the name of who said it and then make sure they're on your team, if you don't see their name on your side...

If you don't see their name at all, they probably suck and shouldn't be listened to anyway...

I never thought of that tactic though, thanks for the heads up...

:D

If you watch and it is your team that says short it will say there postion(radio stairs) if it comes up unknowen or does not have the postion i would not take it as reliable information

Atleast that is what i have learned to do

Peace out

It's a pain in the ass to look on your team list every single time you see blue text. Not to mention, I don't think you can even look at your whole team as tab only shows top 32 players. Plus, it's not a good idea to spend time looking at your team list when time is of the essence to stop the doc carrier.

There is a bug on this map that shows your teammates as "unknown" sometimes so that is not reliable. Been plenty of times when I see people calling for a medic or ammo and I have no idea where they are.

I really don't understand how you guys can sit there and justify this. I am not really surprised with this reaction though. It's lieutenant airstrikes all over again. If you guys are fine with tactics like that, okay. Not much I can do to change minds.

Goddamn, you said it yourself, it's just a game, it's not the end of the world as we know it...

Fuck it, who cares anyway?

For someone I have never seen play, you sure do open your mouth a lot about the game.

Obviously I care or did I not make it clear enough to you by posting this thread? If people did not post here about their concerns with the game, we'd still be sitting in airstrike hell.

Meet me in The Smokin' Room since I do not want to waste anymore space in this thread flaming you.

As far as I know

Opposite team say commands give no position.
Opposite team global vsay commands give position as 'unknown'
Same team say commands by players not in the top 8 scorers give position as 'unknown'

So you can't be tricked.

If you want info about my game, check the stats page. Or you can ask Keekanoo, Zog, Lonewolf McQ or many other regulars about my game.

If you play as (lljk)aphid then I have seen you play and you are not bad. But IMO you whine too much. If things aren't precisely the way you want you start complaining about it to someone. That is not my way. And since you say I am free to disagree with you, I will.

As far as this thread, I would say that more people agree with my view than yours. Who cares... just deal with it.

The only time this option comes up as a problem is if your camping around the radio room. If you're anywhere else in the game, you have to fight like mad just to get to a point where you can intercept.

Mute point, for the most part, in my opinion. Yeah, it's aggravating, and yeah, it's a sneaky underhanded slimey lower than worm-dung thing to do--but all's fair in love and war.

I hear in the new Wolf coming out you can pick up an enemies uniform and disguise yourself. Won't that be fun. I don't like that; something intrinsically dirty and underhanded about that style of play. But war isn't nice. :d

Oh, I forgot to add--Rule of Wrist...yeah, I've seen that game before. On-line Sim-city group that used to play. He played that a lot.

So much for pushing the 'stop' button so I could correct a spelling mistake. Appologies for waisting space :p
