Strange Crash Problem

Postby BulletToothTony » Tue Dec 09, 2003 12:43 am

I've run this game for a very long time and have not had any problems. Today, out of the blue, my comp seems to freeze into a hard lock within a minute of connecting to a server and joining a team. Once it freezes, I can't alt-tab, hit the windows key, or anything. I haven't changed anything in my comp and other games run fine. Anyone else ever experience an issue such as this?

What graphics card/driver version are you running?

Geforce 3 using nvidia drivers 52.16 for WinXP. I've been running this way for awhile, today was the first day I encountered a problem.

are you sure it was a crash and not a problem with punkbuster? PB was turned on today. i had trouble for several hours before i could connect to the server for more then a minute. i was getting "pb client in distress" errors.. which means pb can't run its auto update... the pb website has instructions on how to fix it. pb site

I had the same problems and its your video drivers.
Down grade your drivers and it should work.

Thanks for the tip guys. I will try the punkbuster fix and rollback my drivers.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the game and used the latest patch last night and that still hand't worked. Now I'm mad at myself because I've overwritten some of my keybindings and I forget how I made them... only one I really used was to hit the z key to do /s_stop.

Rolling backs the nvidia driver worked. I don't understand why 52.16 worked for several weeks and then became the problem.

Its a problem with PB. I turned PB on recently. Overall the 5* series drivers from Nvidia are unstable and I would stay away from them.
