still need that help

ok so i still need help trying to fix rtcw if im gonna play for the next few days. I have the cd key file from a previous install but not the key itself. i can open it to see the key but i cant input it in a new install because it says its one character short

can i just use a generated key to finish the install and then replace the fake with my original? thanks for the help
