bitTorrent files

does anyone know anything about these .torrent files? I have seen a few sites on the internet offering downloads for movies, tv shows, etc. From what I can tell, this is some sort of Napster service when napster first started, free and using other peoples computers to share and upload/download?
I installed the bittorrent exe file from bittorrent.com and tried to experiment with some smaller files but nothing seemed to happen. i don't know if i was waiting in line or whatever.
there are some cool movies for anywhere from 700 mb to 1, 2 & 3 gigs on up.

What started my interest in this was the new iPod video and at 60gb, using that in place of a portable dvd player on planes, etc. Would this work? I don't see why it wouldn't. the iPod seems to be able to play any or most file types.

also set the port on the bit-client to something other than 6667 an make sure firewall lets bit.exe in an out...when you pick a file you want make sure there are seeders an leechers...some movies need codec pack

Use this as well. It helps as some companies like HBO are putting up bad seeds and files for you to download garbage.
