Just reformatted, a teensy weensy problem.
I need help!!!
I just reformatted my harddrive, and I cannot get my integrated sound card to work. I looked and looked to no prevail. I currently have a k7s5a motherboard, with a 1.2 amd athlon processor. 512 ddr ram. I did some research on it, and this problems not "uncommon", however, I can't get a clear solution on to how to solve my problem. I've tried downloading the sound drivers. However, I'm completely computer illiterate, and the folders that I downloaded have no autoexec on them. Meaning, i get a folder, it has 5 files in it, and they just sit there. I have no idea what to do with them. If any of you computer experts can help me with this:) I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you:)

didnt you get an installation CD with your motherboard? it will have motherboard chipset drivers, which you should install if you want your computer to be running as fast as it should. many people don't do this, and it doesn't allow your computer to be as fast as it can be.
but anyway, if you have the CD, install all the drivers (your sound drivers will be included)
if you have no CD, restart your computer and hold down the F8 key, or whatever key you need to press to get into your bios (sometimes it's Ctrl, sometimes it's F8, sometimes it's Del)
make sure you have the onboard sound enabled in the bios. Then when you restart, windows should detect and install drivers. It's been a while since I have used onboard, hopefully that works.
but anyway, if all that doesn't, look around on the website for a readme or instructions, they will be there somewhere.

What you've probably downloaded is just the drivers, nothing else (hence no .exe file). What you need to do is tell windows to look for the drivers in that folder, and it should take care of installing them for you.
Which version of windows are you running? if it's windows 2000/xp, you can right-click on the My Computer icon (either on your desktop or your start menu) and select manage. Then go into device manager, find the sound hardware (probably has yellow Question mark, may be more than one), and select it (them). Have windows update driver, then select the second option ("Install from a list or specific location"). On the next window, select "Include this location in the search" , and in the drop down box type in the location of the folder, or use the browse button to find it that way. Hit next, and hopefully windows will take care of it for you, and you may have to repeat this for any other Question marks....
Win98/me works fairly similar, except you select properties after right-clicking the my computer icon, then the device mgr.
Hope it helps!
