Watch for diesels in the near future.

blah, blah....screw hybrid cars. I say we drive normal cars until we all start flying or we run out of gasoline.

My z28 is a 94 and it still gets the sticker mileage 18/21, but that's only if I dont jump on it too much. i wonder how this guy drives it, if you mash the gas pedal down (probably has too if the engine dont have much kick) your gas mileage will suck y'know?

I like what thier doing with the lexus hydrids concept cars... Instead of mileage, the hybrid components give greater performance. They seem to use the electric motors in low end acceleration when engines do not make as much toque and then the engine takes over...

Public transportation, baby. $40 a month gets me everywhere I need to go.

"The (EPA) test needs to include more fundamental engineering," says John H. Johnson, an automotive expert who co-authored a 2002 National Academy of Sciences report on fuel-efficiency standards. "They haven't been updated to encompass hybrids."

"Federal law requires that auto manufacturers use only EPA estimates when promoting their vehicles' fuel economy..."

Sounds like some things need to be updated.

Yeah, the truth.

I would be pretty pissed off if I was in this guys shoes, but it is ironic because there isn't anything wrong with the car and there is nothing he can do about it. Doubt he could return it.

But I agree with Sir Loin, screw the hybrid cars until they can prefect them or until something happens the the modern day automobile wont work for us any more.

My wife has a Toyota Echo and it gets well over 40+ on the highway. I have a Tacoma V6 4x4 and it gets 20-20.5 on the highway even though it was listed that it would get only 19 MPG on the highway. We will get a hybrid when the prices are the roughly the same as non-hybrid and they have been out long enough to get all the bugs worked out. Her car is great for long road trips that we don't have to carry a lot of gear.

The 19-year-old EPA tests for city and highway mileage actually gauge vehicle emissions and use that data to derive an estimated fuel-efficiency rating. The EPA tests pre-production vehicles in a lab to simulate vehicle starts and stops on crowded city streets and open road conditions. According to the EPA website, "The tests measure the waste substances emitted from consuming the fuel, not the actual fuel consumed. From the measurement of emissions, EPA can estimate the miles per gallon achieved by the vehicle on average."

SOunds like their going about things the wrong way.

Ya... Probably done that way cause of some goverenment lobbyst for the auto industry...

I like the way they did the civic hybrid, its supposed to be juts like driving a normal civic just with better mileage..
