Aces of the Deep/Dungeon Keeper 2

Wed Jul 07, 2004 11:53 am

Anyone played this U-boat sim? I remember really liking it although it occasionally crashed to desktop.

Anyone recommend a good and more recent WW2 sub sim?

How about a good RTS? I liked Age of Empires and Conquerors and remember a really fun RTS called Dungeon Keeper 2. although DK was horribly unstable and crashed frequently. I am really looking forward to the Battle for Middle Earth RTS.

Any thoughts about Deus Ex 2? I heard it was disappointing although I really liked the first one.

Thanks,
Jim

I enjoyed Deus Ex 2, and it definately had some killer graphics. They tweaked a few things about the UI that I at first didn't like, but grew used to (especially ithe inventory system). Good game, but not great like the first one. I still haven't replayed it yet to see if I could get a different outcome out of it, it seems like you should.

I have Aces of the Deep but never installed it :freak:

I played a more recent and excellent U-Boot sim called Silent Hunter II (by SSI).

It's quite thorough but still easy to play. You can try all U-Boot types, even Type XXI.

Last week, I played after reading "Das Boot" and I was depth-charged for 2 hours, exactly like in the movie. I was getting good at judging when to evade based on the sound of the destroyers.

SSI also makes a companion destroyer sim called Destroyer Command. You're in command of a single destroyer, or a group of them.

Both games can be played on the Internet, and of course you can play sub against destroyer.

Here's the manual (pdf, 2 megs)
