Flight Simulator 2004

I have been pacing "back and forth" in my mind whether I should purchase this game or not.

The graphics look great and everything look authentic, however, it just looks like the game would be a big bore after a while.

What are your thoughts?

I had combat flight simulator 2003 and it was boring as hell.

You have to be *BIG* into realism, I think, to get a kick out of those games.

Do you mean CFS 3?

There is no such thing as CFS 2003, I think.

BTW...I own that, and it's collecting dust (like 90% of my games are).

simulators are a SNORE to me. I think COLT and Kristov were big into simulators

Only get FS 2004 if you are into flying enough that you have really thought about getting your pilots license.

Otherwise you may get bored.

But if you are looking for a good sim, you should also check out X-plane.

I'm asking because last Saturday, my dad's friend has his pilots license and invited us to fly with him.

He had rented out a Cessna 176.

I have pics that I'll share once we get them developed.

We flew to the local confederate airforce to check out a b-25 they were working on. It was pretty sweet!

Go buy one of the older MS flight Sims and see how you like it. I am sure you can pick one up for $10 or so used

I have FS 98, but the graphics are so dated that I just want to put the CD in a microwave.

Yeah, FS2004 is an excellent learning tool for student pilots. I use it mainly to practice using the navigational instruments(VOR, GPS, etc...)

I 've played every FS version dating back to the Commodore 64 and FS2004 is about as real as it gets. The Flight Simulator community is huge, just go check out vatsim.net & flightsim.com and you'll see the dedication the FS community puts into this game/simulator.

Also, make sure your computer is fast enough to run FS2004 ok, its a graphically demanding game.

I have my private pilot license. I am also instrument rated. I don't have 2004 but I do have Flight Sim 2003 Pro. It is a great learning tool for future pilots, the VOR NAV features help the player to understand that basics Navigation. GPS systems were included but not talked about in the tutorials. You can learn things such as Tuning ILS runways, basics of airport traffic patterns, stalls, etc... I was impressed with the detailed landing tutorial which covered all legs of a basic traffic pattern. (Departure, Crosswind, Downwind, Base, and Final)

Understanding VOR Navigation may be a bit difficult if you aren't familiar with it. But I find it totally nescisary to have a grab of Navigation before you start flying in real life. Most of the time when I fly (real life) I just use GPS, however.

2003 also included an easy-to-use ATC system.

Basically if you have a keen interest in LEARNING to fly then by all means get the game. If you are buying it hoping just to play around then that's fine, but you will not get as much out of it and it will become boring.

I have the game. Mostly use it for ILS approaches into local airports around the area. It's one of the most realistic civil flight simulators out. I would recommend it only if you are interested in getting a liscense though, because it may get boring to the average '42 place whore
