So my wife and I were playing golf yesterday about a mile away from where this happened. I heard it first, the sound started like a loud engine revving, then when the rotor came off that sound speeded up, kinda like a weed whacker when the plastic string snaps off (for those that know what that is).
The sound was unmistakable, we knew right away it wasn't good.
When we first heard it, my wife ran up a small hill overlooking the water and actually saw the rotor fly off and it crash into the water, only about 50-100 yards from the crowded beach. You just never know......
August 30, 2004 -- A flight instructor and his student died when their helicopter crashed into the water at a Long Island beach yesterday.
The chopper, carrying only the two men, crashed around 6 p.m. at Crab Meadow Beach.
Simon Gibson, 29, a flight instructor from West Babylon, died at the scene. Ronald Somers, 37, of Huntington, died at a local hospital.
Witnesses said they heard a pop and saw the rotor fly off before the chopper spiraled into the water, police said.

I'm sure you had nothing to do it with it, being that close and 'golfing' and all

well I have been known to go a little right off the tee, but rest assured I couldn't have carried that water hazard!
