Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

I am thinking of buying a new joystick, I currently have a logitech freedom 2.4, but it is a pain. I was looking at a Saitek, anyone else use them? Opinions? Other choices?

i would go with the microsoft sidewinder precision 2, i've had it for over a year now, works awesome, just make sure you get one with the twist stick. I think I paid 30 or 40 bucks.

Schrapnel, I've had the
Saitek X45 for over two years and it's by far the best joystick I've ever had.
It's well constructed and still feels brand new.

Saiteks are great... I have had my Cyborg 3d USB for a long time and it works great...

I bought the Saitek Cyborg evo, can't get it to work though. It works fine in the control panel, yet 1942 and BFV don't pick it up. If i plug in my old joystick it works fine. I am running XP. I even tried to reintall the game.
Ideas?

you got the drivers right?

Definitely get a joystick with a twist handle, you'll need it for BF's plane's rudder, and BFV helicopters. Also, make sure you get one with a slider for the throttle, but avoid the awkwardly placed slider. I sadly bought a logitech that had the slider in the 'six oclock' position, it's very awkward to control it in that postion.
Just remember, slider and twister handle.

I finally found the problem, in the device manager there was another HID that was interferring with the joystick, I disabled it and now it works fine. I am guessing that it was the old joystick, but i don't know for sure. It shows it as a game controller. There was another HID compiant device that I also disabled.

Did your joystick manage to give a hard time during a crucial moment? My first joystick (which died recently) first acted up while I was playing the Desert Combat mod, flying a blackhawk full of soldiers across that little lake map. I tanked it and killed everyone aboard like a newb. I was too distracted by mechanical failure to tell the guys to 'bail out'
Everyone cussed me out and felt like crap after that.

No, my other joystick is still working, but it is cordless so obviously it runs on batteries. It also goes into sleep mode after a few minutes without use. So besides changing batteries a few times already, you have to "wake" it up before use, or crash and burn. So, when you are in a hurry to steal a chopper or whatever, it is a pain. Every once in a while it did weird things as well like the calibration was out, this may be another problem though, i guess I will find out....

Probably the drivers, dude. I got one of the 2.4s. I think most will agree that I can use it reasonably well.
Once I worked out the sensitivity settings that work for me, I've had no problems other than that damn sleep mode. Yes, it can be a pain but as long as you remember to wake it up, it's all good.

Stay away from logitech like the plague! I currently have an extreme 3dpro, which is basically the wired version of the 2.4... and it basically goes out of calibration in anywhere from 3 days to 3 weeks... this is the third one i've had, and I'll soon have to turn it in for another.... UNTIL...
THIS little gem becomes available...

Only drawback to the x45 as I see it, is the lack of a twist handle... this new one fixes that

My only issue with Saitek is where do ya put the damn thing and still have some desk space left, other than that it looks pretty nice.
Hey, didn't someone have an app and a way to tweak the throttle so it's smoother in 1942?

TweakDX2, I got if off a logitech site, but I think it works for anything. Search for TweakDX2 and I think you'll find it.
