are you getting power to it?

If so, then maybe unplug and then re-attach the cables...sometimes that will do it.

I am surprised that by re-attching it that it does not recognize the "original" hardware.

it acts like its reading the cd, but its not showing up on the computer....i m trying to figure out who the manufactrurer is to dl new drivers but it just sayd generic

dell should have it on their website, no?

Failing that, then see if it shows up under my computer on the desktop or better yet, under your device manager when you right click on my computer.

Do you see a yellow exclamation mark beside your DVD drive? SOmetimes you can roll back a driver there.

dell has all the manufacturers showing up and all my comp says is generic thers no makrs and i ve done everything you can think of in the device manager and everything else

Sun Nov 14, 2004 8:32 pm

did you try richt clicking on the DVD drive in yoru device manager and either troubleshooting it or rolling back the driver?

Sometimes when you disable and then enable it, it reads it again?

Just trying to help...

Sun Nov 14, 2004 8:33 pm

yea i appreciate man i am in the midddle of the troubleshooting now

Sun Nov 14, 2004 8:34 pm

good luck. Like I said, try disabling it and then enabling it, then a reboot...

maybe it will help?

Good luck. Someone smarter than me will have to help you more than I can.
