Processor limits.

My Sempron 2400+ reach 53C the other day, and it felt like it slowled down allot. It could have been a fluke though because it had been on for several days and neeeded a reboot.

I checked the AMD cards and it says the CPU core temp should be anywhere between 0-90C!

I thought to myself that sounded ok. But I checked my BIOS and it's auto hard shutdown was set to 85C default. I moved it down to 70C.

Are those tempatures dangerous for it?

(Chassis tempature has never gotten over 40celcius) I know the P4 safe chassis temp is 50C and it hits its thermal limit inside the core at 45C chassis)

50C is what? 76 degrees? I don't think that would be dangerous to my CPU. Maybe I'm just freakin out over nothing.

How does that sempron perform?

I imagine 53C is fine...

Edit: I believe 0-70C means up to 70C with constant use without it failing... maybe maybe not...

My P4 used to idel at 55-58C and I used it for a good year like that... New heatsink and it idles at 46C with a 600mhz overclock...

No, its the anti-burn regulator. If it hits 70C is shutsdown and emits a loud long beep to let you know it overheated

But the chart says 0-90C. My mobo's default to auto shutdown was 85C. The setting I have it for is 70C. Dunno, is that to low?

try putting duct tape all over your motherboard, that should do the trick

53C is fine. You should start worrying around 70C, which is what you set your autoshutdown to.

sounds logical...and smarter than skilo's idea

I would not worry until you hit 65-70. Really it's fine. Although you may want to think about a cpu fan that pushes more air if you are consistantly near 55.

50ºC is 122ºF
