Too Good to be True?
Check out the story

side note:
Being dyslexic, I always thought of Nicholas Negroponte as a hero since he too suffered the aflection. He established the MIT Media Lab way back in 1980. His ideas then went well beyond the internet to Digital Living. See this
Article (written in 1995 btw)
Quote:
Computing is not about computers any more. It is about living.

Why does it have to a laptop? It sounds like they are putting form ahead of function. If it needs to be portable, it could just as well be something like mini ITX or something like that. Rather than a VGA out, make the output Coax cable, connect it to any TV, 640x480 resolution. Even easier than that just get all the outdated computers in this country and send them over there (colleges and businesses can't get rid of them fast enough). There are whole companies devoted to scrapping usable computers (for a fee) and breaking them up into recyclable materials. We might be talking Pentium IIs, but a Pentium II can be used for education.

AFFIRMATIVE!!!!!
One of my job responsibilities is setting up pickups for our old equipment. I mean we use monitors til they die, but when pc's go out of warranty, out the door they go to a company that wipes the hard drive and resells the PC, donates it, or properly recycles it.
