So Summit bought out one of the most dedicated BFsites (bf42.com), turned it into FPScentral (which was a decent site with a HUGE forum community) and abruptly closses down the site?

Yes but I seem to remember the forums were not part of the deal. Anyway they continued for a while at FPSCentral. Now they're gone and Ampednews has a pitiful BF1942 forum stub.
Oh and wasn't there a big row because Summit had been double-crossed by the AmpedNews owners?
