First seen at the Consumer Electronics Show back in January, the silver box that resembles a candy bar hooks up to your television and redirects, or "placeshifts", a single live TV stream from a cable box, satellite receiver, or digital video recorder and blasts it out to a Windows XP-based PC located anywhere in the home.

So that if you are on a business trip to China, all the way across the globe, you can just have your wife send you whatever channel you want!Originally posted by Chacal
Beats me why anyone would want that.
Oh, and "placeshift"? What happened to old "send to"?
If the Slingbox is coupled with a broadband Internet connection, the company claims the viewer's live TV stream can be "placeshifted" via the Internet to a PC located anywhere in the world.

Yeah but you can't time the comercial breaks, they always change.Originally posted by cavalierlwt
Or, if you're at work, you can log in, change the channels, and watch TV.
You can do this with a PC running windows or linux, you would need a TV tuner card and an IR blaster to change the channels though. Windows Media Encoder 9 will stream live video, Real Media Server will do it (there's a free version) and for linux Apple-Darwin makes a free live video server used in conjunction with two other programs. Those with ATI All in Wonders should be able to do it without adding anything to their computer, and you can always set your cable box (some of them) to go to a certain channel at a certain time.
