Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

Bump.
I've had both MS Anti-Spyawre and AD-Aware SE. After running both I can say that Ad-Aware picks up things that MS Anti-spyware does not. Both are free. When I recently added a new hard drive, I did not reinstall the MS Anti-spyware. I did however reinstall the Ad-Aware.
Anyone else want to comment on these or perhaps better antispyware products?

Ugh spyware.
Sometimes you have to use multiple programs to get it all off.
Ive seen it so bad before that it is much easier/faster/cheaper to fix with a format/reload.
some of the programs that I use are
Adaware
Spybot search and destroy
Hijack this
Spy Sweeper
Trend micros online scans
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
And a few others that I cant think of right now.
On my own computer I dont have anything actively running, but I run a manual scan about once a month, But it never finds anything but cookies.
I've also found that the MS anti-spyware adds about 15-20 seconds to boot time on average and seems to slow down installing new programs.

MS Antispyware intentionally doesn't scan for cookies.

Adaware
Spybot search and destroy

and for anti virus:
AVG

I ran into a nasty spyware a few weeks back. Nasty in the sense that adaware, webroot, and my norton wouldn't detect it. I finally did a google search, found a thread suggesting a few things including using pandasoftware.com activescan. It found it but I still had to manually remove it.
I guess it comes down to having to use many products which sucks if you have to end up paying for them.

I use a plethora of 'em: Ad-Aware, Spybot, MS AntiSpyWare (like HatRack, I didn't need to DL a new version... so long as you've been updating it, it updates the beta-end date), and HiJackThis.
Annoying as hell that we have to rely on three, four, or more software programs to fight spy and adware.
I have to say, the only one I use "constantly on" (except when in-game) is Microsoft's and I haven't had any spy/ad issues (aside from the random cookies) since I started to do so. I still run a check about once a week, or when I think of it, to be safe.

I'm with you guys. I use the others previously mentioned (Spybot, Hijack This, etc. as well as Ad-Aware) All good programs and all necessary. I just felt that the MS product was inferior to the others mentioned.
Like some of you I only occasionaly (weekly) run one of the anti-spyware programs to make sure I am spyware free.
