Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

Been looking into the possibility of getting a new gaming system recently, and I'm wondering about the new graphic cards (PCI Express). I mean, I don't want to buy an AGP mobo, and find out that most graphic cards have switched to PCI-E and then be crippled when it comes to an upgrade. I've looked into mobos that have both but they're mostly kind of...poopy. Where you guys see the graphic cards going in the future? I'm hoping this system will last me around two years or so.

PCI Express. The way of the future. Until the next thing that is. But as compared to AGP? AGP is the past. If you want a serious technical comparison look at
http://www.tomshardware.com for one or even
http://www.anandtech.com.

If you have a really good AGP card right now and you want to use it in your upgrade then you might want an AGP board. However, if you are buying a new vid card and a new mobo you should definitely choose a PCI board.

Or, get the new chipset motherboards that have BOTH AGP and PCI-X/Express on them.

???? There is no performance difference. AGP 8X isn't even maxed out yet.
007, since you are upgrading your entire system(or so it seems) then go PCI-E. The newest Nvidia card does not even offer AGP.

The Geforce 7800 is the best card on the market if you want to fork out all that money. The 6800 GT is good for a lot less.

The ATI x800XL is almost EXACTLY on par with the 6800GT, and costs like ~$50 to $75 dollars less.

Its personal preference, AGP has yet to be fully utilized.
Take every opinion given here with a grain of salt. Then go out and read up on the technological differences, and the price differences and base your choice upon that!

If he is buying a new set-up, and AGP is being slowly phased out. And Nvidia hasn't even released their BEST card in a AGP format. Why on earth would you want to go with dieing technology? It's called futureproof. It doesn't even matter if AGP hasn't been fully utilized, it might never be as PCI-E will take over.

You say you want to be ready for future upgrades then obviously pci-x is the way to go.
