Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

I've been reading some military websites, and as you all know they have been thinking of bringing back the draft....watcha all think about it?
Wed Dec 14, 2005 11:11 am
Doubt it. Today's military demands too much training and professionalism. Even your basic grunt goes through years of specialized training. The reason our national K/D ratio is so high. The draft should be reserved for times when the nation is truly in danger, from an equivalent power. It's enough for me if most Americans own and know how to properly use a firearm. That's a good enough deterrent to keep other nations from invading.

You make a great point, about most americans own guns...but the bad thing is, most prob. dont know how to use guns....look at how many people die each year from shooting themself or shooting a friend or a friend shooting you while hunting....I say we get some fucking gangsters and make some beef with them and towel heads

man they'd be over there in a heart beat beating some ass. Lol just kidding

No. We should leave Iraq.
Wed Dec 14, 2005 12:19 pm
Doesn't effect me at all. I have wire holding my left shoulder together, so I can't be drafted. Hell, last few days with temps below 20 I have had nothing but pain in it(feels like a very nasty pinch inside my shoulder).
If I am ever drafted, it is because we are in a world of hurt.

ditto what Pudrik said.
I don't think it will happen and there is no need for one. Plus, as our technology advances, there will be less and less need for troops.

If they drafted women, i'd go in a heartbeat. Put me in a heli as medflight and i'd be happy as hell. But of course you have all that "women don't belong on the front line" bullshit. Such crap in my book. If we are willing to go fight, let us. This is our country too.
Btw..the war in Iraq is over. Enough have died. Let them deal with the rest. Bring our guys home.

While I'm against the war in Iraq you can't just leave after you pretty much fuck up an entire country and rip it apart and leave it without a government. You think it's bad now but if we leave this country in shambles nothing but the worst can happen. Other countries will invade and others will want the oil, bla bla bla. This country is pretty much a new born right now again, they have nothing. They are at the bottom rebuilding.
When you start a project thats really important do you just give up halfway through because it's too hard? No, you stick with it and keep trying. Thats what needs to be done in Iraq. Bush wanted to go over and now that we are there we can't just leave. Not to start anything but the Army training has too many flaws and thats why they have the highest death rates. My brother only told me half the shit the guys in the Army did wrong in Iraq, this comming from a Marine. It really amazed me to hear some of the stuff thats pretty much common sense.
Not to mention Iraq does not have enough military personnel or police trained yet.
As for the draft I could careless if it happens. If I go I go, if I dont whatever. But the draft isn't going to happen, this war will be over before we are in need of troops. Unless Bush fucks the country over and does something stupid before his term is over and starts WWIII then it wont happen.

i agree with random on the pulling out issue, we did that in the 70's and 80's with all the anti-commy BS and severly fucked up a few countries.
Friend of mine joined the army as a basic grunt, 8 months later he was in iraq, so it doesn't take years.
if the draft is ever initiated, unless i feel w/e conflict worthy, i'll have a free ticket to either canada or jamaca waiting at my dad's. but don't get me wrong if my country really is in a bad enough situation i would definately fight for it.

So your going dodge the draft like many other chickenshits if you do not favor the war? They wouldn't be calling you if they didn't need you. You have a 33 yr old female with 2 kids willing to go, but yet your willing to run? No offense here, just asking.

B, I really want to make out with you right now.
Wed Dec 14, 2005 2:35 pm
Some people are wlling to put there lives on the line and i think its great that you would want to b. But it doesn't mean that you WOULD. Not saying you wouldn't, but i must admitt b that its cool that you would put your life on the line. If the draft does come back i'd go over in a heartbeat, i mean why not, its to pertect the usa. And if they draft me, were seriously screwed. (thats besides the point, pluse i'd hide behind b lol throw her in the way of bullets, i know im supposed to "jump" infront of hers....but screw that lol j/k, i would take a bullet for ya b

)But anyways all the news shows are bad things over there, and if we pulled out now, all the fallen soliders will have died in VEIN and we CANNOT do that to them!!!!! I had a cousin die over there and if we pulled out know i would really be pissed off, they wouldn't have finished the job! But lets like try to keep this thread from being locked so please dont start fighting

To blindly back one's government, most especially in cases when the government is clearly wrong, is not American. To question your government and make it change it's policies through civil action - if that means protesting and refusing to go to war, is the ultimate expression of American freedom and values. Why? Because it proves that the individual has the freedom to voice political opinions at odds with whatever administration is in power without fear of harsh judicial punishment.
Speaking on a personal note, I seriously gave joining the armed forces thought at several points in my life. The last time was after 9/11. I chose not too however because I could see through the bullshit that was being put out there. I don't want to contribute to policies I believe are fundamentally wrong. To attack a country which was in no way connected to an act of terrorism made no sense then and makes even less sense now. If the war had focused solely on finding the terrorists as had been stated, then I probably would have joined.
I don't think many things are either black or white in this world. Almost everything is in shades of grey. To say I'll always defend my country, even when it's dead wrong is I think, just as bad as saying I'll never defend my country. There is common ground in the middle for most of us to share. The last war that had clear justification for U.S. involvement was WWII. I think we missed out on a few wars in Africa which we had an equal moral obligation to become involved in. Only problem is, Africa isn't a large source of oil and our President has no financial ties to it's ruling elite.
For me, wars at our current state in history should not be fought over land conquest and resources. I think we have progressed as a country and in civilized sophistication in general to the point where we have the technology to solve both problems with the land and and resources we currently have.
Anyway, that's my view of America and my fantasy of how a Eutopian American society would behave.
