Who finds christmas depressing?

Sun Dec 18, 2005 6:28 pm

I certainly do, and IM ONLY 16!!!! Hateing christmas is what you do when your a grumpy upper middle aged man.

Basically if you get all excited it all ends up as a big anti-climax, basically the only good part is opening the presents then after that, its nothing speacial? You have to eat a meal, which if its so good, why don't you eat it more often? Then you have spend all day with the people you only see once a year, because you don't like them. 66% of familys in the UK end up in a big fight because the food makes you as prone to mood swings as a pregnant woman. Theres always some s*** film on TV.

I suppose the only good thing is thats its an excuse to get drunk.

Christmas is ok imo, but I gotta give like 2/4 of my money in my wallet as a gift to family :(

Sun Dec 18, 2005 7:16 pm

I guess its because last year the PS2 games i got last year were s*** and i was watchin a top 100 christmas TV moments and, they were largely so crap i wanted tocry.

If Santa was a Evil robot whos standards had been set to highso everyones on his naughty list and he goes a destructive rampage each year and if he catches you, he'll tear off your skin like wrapping paper and deck the halls with your guts. He would also shove coal so far up your asses your be caughing up diamands.

:rotflmao: Yea, my christmas day is gonna be boring as hell. Wake up with the family, then open presents. Then a long lull through the whole day..............

what a great article. My favorite part was about the lawsuit the religious conservatives are threatening... obviously meant to be in the christmas spirit.

I hope a jew gets elected president and the star of david and lighting the menora (sp) become a staple of rockefeller center for four years.

I say happy holidays because i attriubute the holiday of Thanksgiving to the holiday season and it neatly fits with whatever you celebrate.

People seriously need to f-ing lighten up. best quote of the article to me:

Perhaps, added Peter Steinfels of the Center on Religion and Culture at Fordham University, there isn't a war on Christmas after all but a more sensitive religious right

Alofwar, if you want to try and get into the spirit of christmas, try helping someone in need by donating time or money to a local charity or aid group in your area. you may just help yourself with your feelings about the holidays and help bring someone's morale up.

When I was a kid it was all about the presents. I would snoop through the house, or even surreptitiously and carefully open presents to find out what I was getting. It was all about the list I gave to Mom, and every year I pretty much knew what I was getting. And I was real picky about my list.

Several years ago, I just stopped caring. Mom still asks for a list, even though I'm 27. But I'm no longer specific, and really, it doesn't matter.

This may partially be because I have the means now to pretyt much get anything that I would ask for as a gift. But also, I came to realize that the joy of the gift is not in getting what you want, but in someone putting the thought into coming up with a gift for you. Some of the best gifts are not asked for.

And more than anything, and perhaps you will come to this as well, now that I live so far form my family, I look forward to Christmas as a time to be with people who know me and love me for who I am. It's hard to appreciate your family when you spend every day with them.

I guess not everyone has a family they miss, but I am glad I do, and I look forward to Christmas every year.

MERRY CHRISTMAS KINGOFBEERS!

I'm 16 and I think I have already stopped caring. I used to always have a huge list ready for my mom. Full of toys, and I hated getting clothes. This year my mom asked me what I wanted, I said how about some clothes and a new cell phone. The list ain't so big anymore. Actually, if I got nothing except a card, I wouldn't be upset at all.

It's a little disheartening to read so many posts about how much Christmas sucks because we don't get as many gifts as when we were kids or how our gifts just aren't all that good or how crappy it is to spend time with family.

I love Christmas. Seriously, the point is in the giving, not receiving. It's a great feeling to give something to someone that you know they'll appreciate. I don't just mean the commercial aspect like giving someone a PS2 game they were hoping for, but the simple act of helping someone in need is one of the most loving acts a person could do.

Yeah, sounds sappy doesn't it? But, that's the point of Christmas. Share the giving spirit by taking a little bit of time and giving a little bit of yourself to others. You don't have to buy something very expensive... hell, you don't have to buy anything at all. That's the Commercialized Christmas that's giving you that idea.

Give someone else your time or at the very least, your effort. Volunteer to help out a kitchen or if that's too much time for you, donate something to charity. The people who suffered from Katrina and the earthquakes in Pakistan could certainly use a little Christmas spirit spread their way. They don't even have to be Christian to enjoy it... hell, the Commercialized Christmas isn't even about being Christian at all.

If you don't get all the presents you wanted and you're upset by it, then you're sorely missing the point. Give a little of yourself, take some time and spend it with the family and your friends, and by all means, as hippie-ish as this sounds, spread positive feelings, not negative ones. For just this one time of the year, for just a day or two, think of others, not yourself. It's very rewarding, let me tell you.

Sure, it'd be nice if people did that all year 'round, but let's face it: very few people do. I know I don't. But at the very least, I can try and give a little of myself, my time, and my money (in the form of gifts) to the people I love.

And that's why I love Christmas.
