For those of you who wanted a "Pacific" version of Band of Brothers.... the wait is almost over.

I can't wait. The History channel just ran BoB today, I caught 4 episodes of it. Just phenomenal stuff. Much better than the crap that I normally pay $8.50 to go see at the theater.

Not soon enough. I need something to erase the memory of that shameful waste of money that was 'Rome'...

Rome was ok sometimes and blaaaah other times. I can't believe they left out the MOST FAMOUS line from Julius Caesar's death scene. Et tu Brutus?

et tu brutus was not the famous last words, in fact no one knows the exact words/ et tu brutus was a play on words by shakespeare

It was duller than shit and considering the budget and the lack of anything impressive I think they must have spent all the money on a diamond dildo for the directors own personal use. It was pretentious, dull, poorly lit, porrly written and featured almost infinite plot points that served no purpose in the story telling but were there purely to grab headlines and pull in an audience (presumably so that they could be disappointed). At no point did it look like it deserved the budget it was given. It was imo a complete waste of time and resources...

Overall, I liked Rome, but I was dissapointed. The town 'set' was nice, but not as impressive as I was expecting. When Ceasar had his big battle with Pompey, they didn't even really show it, just cut to the aftermath and let you know that Caesar had won. Given the amount of money, I guess I expected more. Band of Brothers had some very impressive, fairly large scale battles. Even Carnivale had just as impressive set/costumre etc.
The best thing about Rome was Gaius Octavian (that kid did a really good job) and Brutus. I like the way they really added some flesh to the part of Brutus, I actually felt bad for him by the end of the show.

Ahhh.. I stand corrected.:D

Where the hell did they spend the money though? They had a total budget of 100million. Which means each episode had 2 times the budget of Donnie Darko. So why the hell did it look and feel so damn cheap?

I loved the show. I hated the fact they removed his famous last words.

Maybe they paid the actors more. I just know comparing it to Band of Brothers, Rome did come off looking cheaper. I wouldn't say cheap, those set were decent, just not 100 million dollars worth.
How did Band of Brothers pull it off? They had the night time jump on D-Day, some tank battles, and a great set and effects for Bastogne. It could be that Spielberg/Hanks really know how to get the most of the money.

It's rumored to be. We will never know for use. My personal favote is 'even you, my son' to Brutus.

BTW, HBO is running Deadwood Season 2 on Sunday nights. That show is even better on repeated viewing. Just hacking through the language and little details of plot is like working your way through a gourmet meal. The dialogue is just insanely great at times, but it makes you work a little, and in the end the payoff is better for it.
