Computer getting hot

ok have a fan on my ati 9800 pro

fan on my chip

and a power supply fan, that supply is brand new

my computer is still running hot tho

I have a HP case and a 2400+ (2.0 GHZ ) ATHLON XP processer


I just bought a new fan 3 by 3 inches, that I can use to cool down some

-should I install on the side of my case (opposite the motherboard) or what??

I can install it by just cutting my side panel which comes off to get to the MB and all the cards

any suggestions, or would this even help????

The more fans the better... I have 2 rear, 1 front, and 1 side.

Probably a stupid question...Have you blown it out with compressed air?

lol yep damn it was dirty as hell, I had an inch of dust on the top of the thing above the chip, I stopped the restarts mostly, but my fan speed prog. is still showing 51-55 C on some of the stuff, going to add that side fan, any one else

right now

temp 1 26 C
temp 2 52 C-showing hot
temp 3 46 C
temp HD0 54 C-showing hot
temp 1 40C (two temp ones)

any others???? suggestions

ok i thought you guys would get this evenually but you should put it on the top, sucking hot air out. if you feel the top of your box and its warm then you need one or two fans on top sucking air out. i have two on top, one on side opposite MB, and one at bottom, plus power supply, my system is ice cold baby. screw water cooled i'll go buy a 5 dollar fan and drill a hole in my 50 dollar box, instead of a 500 dollar box with water cooled...

What is important is getting hot air out and cool air in. If you put too many fans into your case it can defeat the purpose. More isn't better in this case. You want air flow from, through and out. Not circulating the hot inside.. so keep that in mind.

Oh.. yes. Make sure there is no dust on your components. It makes a great insulator. Take it outside, take the case off and use some compressed air to blow it all out. Be careful of course, not to blow it into your cd drive as it'll block the laser. The fans also could probably use some TLC as dust most likely won't be blown off by compressed air - swabs should work though.

A CPU temp of 54C really is nothing to be concerned about with the AMD XP 2400+. If you are getting 60+ under load I would look for better ways to cool. What kind of heatsink/fan do you use on the CPU? Stock cooling is not very good sometimes. You might consider a new CPU cooler. See http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16835106035

DOH! I thought there might be a connection somehow... Still an interesting article, though I wouldn't risk $2000 for an experiment.
