here's a chal for u guys....I have 500 bucks for my computer upgrades right now

this is my system now

AMD Athlon xp 2400+ (2.0ghz)
756 DDR SDRAM
80 GIG HD
ATI RADEON 9800 PRO 256
CD-RW
DVD-ROM

minus a few add ons its a HP Pavilion 734n

-------------------------------------------------------

What would you upgrade, remember my ATI is still great so a PCI Express Slot wouldn't work for video

--------------------------------------------------------

Links and total cost would be great, thanks man

the easiest and most dramatic change would be to upgrade your ram to 2 gigs... don't buy a 2 gig chip though, get two 1 gig chips. this way if anything happens you won't be totally out of commision.

For about $380 I bought the ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 ($70) (motherboard)

AMD 64 3700+ at newegg ($212) I can't remember the exact price.

1 GB RAM. Not sure what type/brand. (2x512 Mb) (around $70).

Nice thing about the AsRock MB... supports both AGP and PCI-E. So you don't have to upgrade your video card now. It is also supposed to support the new AMD chip (M2?) Can't recall the name of the new chip.

Think I bought everything from NewEgg. Everything running great. I also had to buy a new powersupply. I bought a 500w from Compusa for $20 after rebate. Best $400 I've spent recently.

My previous post may be misleading. I bought a new MB, RAM, Power supply, and CPU for $400. That made a huge increase over my old XP 2000+ CPU.
