double delayed

no real suprise that its being delayed, and the only reason sales are low for XBOX2 is because of available quantity.

I think sony might have screwed the pooch on this one. I read an article saying that the parts list alone for the Playstation 3 is about $900, so they're going to take a larger loss than expected for the first two years. They figure that by the third year, costs should be down to $320. In order to keep losses reasonable, Sony will have to keep sales of the P3 lower than normal.
Add the 2 year headstart that they are giving XBox 360 and it looks like bad news for Sony IMHO.

They have plenty made, just holding them back to increase demand.

Yeah I'd go along with that.

That's not how business works. MS is having production problems with the XBOX360. At the moment, they lose at least $126 per console (this is normal) so it's not really killing them to take their time and get their production line squared away. If they wanted to increase demand, they'd increase advertising or drop the price--that's the way business works.

Almost forgot, M$ is also allocating a certain amount to sell in Japan, and cracking the Japanese market is a *HUGE* goal for the Xbox-360. I'd guess that right now they would rather have a shortage in the US than in Japan.

This is probably the source of the 'conspiracy theories'

Doesn't surprise me, offering all those different price points instead of just having the basic console+ whatever accessories the consumer wants is just too big a temptation for some people. Pretty similar to what car dealers do: ex. "Do you have this model in the basic package? No, I only have this model with the upgraded this and that, for an extra $1400."
That's how they get you! :)

Sony are pissing me off now. When it was first annonced they said by christmas 2005. I have been a good customer too the Playstation, buy the Playstation, PS1, PS2 and slim line PS2 but they are really tempting me to get an X box 360 instead.

Yeah but why bother as the ps3's not out. When it comes out you can bet they'll drop their price and flood the market to kick the legs out from under sony...
