WOW, great video. Not a damn thing you can do once your in that situation. Just stop driving, slide where you're going to slide and leave it at that.

holy moly that was some serious ice there.. those cars were hardly moving and sliding all over

Wow. That was nuts. Although the first car in the video must have had a moron driving it. I think they actually gunned it twice after sliding fifty feet.

WOW that is some crazy ice, i thought they were just wiping out, but i think it must have been a hill and they couldn't stop. The first one looked like a retard that was guning it. lol
Wed Jan 17, 2007 11:17 am
yea it appears to be a hill, hard to tell from the top down view
Wed Jan 17, 2007 1:03 pm
why would you keep hitting the gas? why?

There's nothing you can do. There's plenty the asshat with the camera can do like getting off his ass and warning you not to even try driving down the road. I mean honestly quite apart from the fact that he's happy to let his neighbours cars get trashed someone could have got seriously hurt. What a fucking tool.
With that first person i'd say they probably just panicked. I'd guess they knew enough to know that putting on the prakes would be useless but either had a fully automatci car with no real control over the gears or they just freaked out. It's easily done especially when you get that feeling of having no control over the car, you'll do miost anything to get it under control again.

I agree. Someone should have been trying to stop people.

Someone like this scares the crap out of me on the road. Panicking is the last thing someone should ever do in a moving car. In this situation just take you foot off the gas and brake and ride it out. If someone is that scared of losing control of a car don't drive in a freaking ice storm.

I was wondering about the camera man too. But I guess there isn't much he can do from his position.

I drive in the snow every year. While there is not much you can do once you have lost control there are a few things you should so do you dont loose control and a few things you should not do.
First off, when there is snow or ice go slow, very slow. Second watch ahead of you. Far ahead. Two or three times farther than you would normaly. You do not have braking power so you have to be way ahead of the game and think things out way in advance.
If you do loose control you cant hit the gas and you cant hit the brakes. Gas spins the wheels and you can see what that did for him. Hitting the brakes is just as bad. Once you are on the brakes the wheels stop turning and you slide. With the wheels not turning you cant steer. You have to lightly tap the brakes, use the engine to slow you down and gently tap the brakes to slow the car yet keep control of the wheels.

warn people??? Wheres the fun in that? Then you cant video tape it so the world can laugh at other people's misfortune.

Yeah that's a good excuse. Maybe if someone had nailed his feet to the floor I might just go along with it...
It's a shame he didn't catch a death with his camera then he could have made the real big bucks selling it to network news.
As for driving on snow I never had a problem with it myself. Like you say so long as you go really easy on the brakes and use the gears to slow yourself down you're generally fine. On that hill though you still wouldn't stand a chance. that car in the middle which is moving directly sideways pretty much illustrates that. In my opinion they should make driving on snow/ice part of the driving test. It's pretty easy to replicate using those little fly wheel contraptions they have and it's something everyone really ought to know how to handle.
