Changing Driving Habits?

OK guys I am pinching pennies, nowadays. Not sure if its the new house, or the price of gas. But for the first time I am changing my driving habits to try and conserve gas, any others taking measures to spend less at the pumps? Or am I all alone here at PVS?

I'm staying home more. I'm actually thinking of buying a used small car. I'd sell my truck, but I used it alot. Gas is just going to keep rising. $4.27 here this morning. They said its going up again in a few days. When I get 14 mpg.. something has to change.

I'm trying to car pool, and take public transportation. The only problem is that the public transport here isn't too good on time (and is too hot in the summer).

Though in the end, not much will help since everything is dependent on gas. I would say starting within the next few months/years we'll start to see the increase on prices of all consumer goods. Since pretty much every single product is touched by gas somewhere on the transportation line. (Prices go up, Taxes go up, and salaries stay the same what a world we live in...)

The worst part about this is the record profits made by the gas companies, combined with all the subsidizations given by the government, Plus the government getting taxes on the gas equals big money for both of them. I wouldn't expect much to change.

Jungle it gets too hot in teh summer time there? in CANADA, I thought it was simply a frozen wasteland.. haha JK, I would think though that you would have said about it being too cold in teh winter rather than too hot in the summer.

I am also driving my fiance's car now which is a 4banger cavalier w/o AC, rather than my 4Runner V6.

What is PVS?

My power bill was $38 in May. I drive a company work van so I don't have to pay for gas there (although it is a minivan that I use to haul work tools, so it is about as good as you can get for fuel efficiency). I drive a 5 speed 4 cylinder pickup outside of work. Not sure I can get more fuel efficient then that. I skipped my last two softball games that were a 40 minute drive away. The team sucked so bad it was not worth the gas to go there and lose in 4 innings.

Other then that I would be the first one in line to get an electric car. Once they get one out that has a 120+ mile range with a top speed of 60ish. Good luck finding one of them. They put a man on the moon 40 years ago but we still can't get more then golf cart for an electric car.

Complain about the cold? I love the cold! I hate the heat. At least with the cold all you have to do is add more clothes. With the heat there is only so much you can take off before the cops arrest you

umm can we say 12.5 mpg.. 2002 dodge 5.9...i istalled a K&N air filter and a flowmaster muffler.. and did see a half a mile per gallon improvement......btw i drive alot less

I stopped using my gas-guzzling Gator and started using my electric golf cart to go down to my mailbox.

I live in the city and either walk (30 minutes) or take the bus (10 minutes) to and from work. Walking back home along shaded streets (which is a good daily exercise), I can stop at the grocery store, coffee shop, hardware shop, bakery, bookstore. All of them small neighborhood stores. Sometimes I stop at a café and have Guinness or wine at an outdoor table while reading the paper and checking local females.

I still have a car which I fill up less than once a month. My employer pays for my monthly bus pass.

The funny thing is I started this before gas prices went up. It wasn't for gas prices at all, it was for exercise, and the rarity and cost of parking space in the city.

Oh and it's a small city, not polluted. There wasn't a singler homicide last year.

I am driving my morocycle to work more.

The gas cost is high but what realy scares me is the heating oil price. I do a contract for the years oil. Last year it cost me $288 per month for 10 months for oil. When I signed the contract oil was ~$60 a barrel. With it at $140 a barrel now I am not sure I can afford to heat the house next year. The iol bill will more than double to $600 per month!!!

I am looking at adding a wood furnace....

Just bought a 28ft. camping trailer to spend more time w/family in the great outdoors.
Like many business I have had price increases and added a fuel surcharge to cover rising fuel prices.

Too bad we cant have outhouses and go to the creek for water anymore.

Agree. The cold isn't what gets to you, its the damn wind chill that will turn you into a frozen popsicle in 5 minutes.

Trying to bike to campus and take the shuttle bus to the airport and back but that can suck when the weather is crap. And lately its been crap. My 08 Toyota Corolla gets about 26mpg in town during the summer time. Its not too bad to fill up but I've had to add $10 more for every fill up since I got it last year.
