Lets Talk Soccer/Eurpoean Football

Ok I started the thread..

Tour, Seedorf did play on your national team in the 1994 world cup. That was the team that I was listing players. The other players that you mentioned must be current ones. I don't know the current Dutch team that well since they didn't make the cup. (I fully admit that you were in a MUCH tougher qualifictaion round than the US.)

Edit: Seedorf also played on the 98 cup team and the Euro 200 team. He started in 1994

Ok who is everyone's favorite club?

Since I am in the US (please don't go slamming on our football.. both are great sports), I don't have any local favorites. I enjoy certain players. I am a Beckham fan so I will be watching Real next year. I also will follow the US players in Europe. Hopefully, McBride can get out of his MLS contract and get back to the EPL.

Each year I seem to pick a team for each league, but it is usually based around which teams I can get to watch. Our coverage of the game is pretty slim here in the US.

First: the national team of Holland....All great players. But all those great players don't make a great team. So they diserved to lose the qualifications.
Favorite team: Feyenoord... Eurpean champion in 1970, Worldchampion 1970-71. And 3 times UEFAcup-winner ( last time on may the 8th 2002).
Around the 1995-96 there was a great hype around Ajax. They've won the Campions League, became famous, blablabla... My opinion: 65% of the supportes of Ajax are not really supporters. I call them "fake". People who support Ajax cause they won a lot, but not because the love ther club. Feyenoord however is totally different. Where Ajax has 200 audience on their first training, Feyenoord has 8,000!!
But back to Sannop. Tell me more about the American leaugue. I rarely see anything about American soccer.

US soccer is getting better, we had a good showing in the last cup. We have some amazing talent, but I don't think that they mature facing enough challenge to ever be forced into lerning how to be a team player.

In the High School level that I coach... one good player can dominate. One of the local high schools had never competed well unitl a certain player, now on the US national team, was there. They won the state title all four years that she was there, and never got close again.

Our players become selfish. I hope that we start getting our top talent to travel around the world and play at a very young age.

Right now the MLS (American League) is playing an alright game. It is allowing some top young talent to show themselves, and allowing the old Europe players some place to play before they die..

Hmmm, I don't really like soccer, I prefer carraces as Formula 1 and indycars... As for soccer: I don't support any team, but I am happy to see if one of our teams has won a final...

The only time I will switch to a soccer broadcast is if the National Team will be in half finals... Unfortunally that is not that often... (as Tour of Duty already mentioned)

Basicly I don't like the people around it: To much fights and rumour around the games. I think I would like it better if it would just come down to plain soccer...

I am a racing fan...

I went to the US Grand Prix last year... sat right across from Mike Schumacher's pit.

I have been to several Indy races... (Disney and Gateway)

Nasacar.. Daytona

let me correct you:D
the spanish league is the best in the world, not kidding all the press say that, and Real Madrid is the best football team in the world ever.;)
Hala Madrid!

Florentino Perez (Real madrid´s president) says his team is the best team in the 20th century evet known.
FIFA says the same and the spanish teams are good too, but not as good as the could be as the Real Madrid is...:D

Real BUYS good players. But, just like you said, Real Madrid is a very good club ( Feyenoord lost from Real in the Supercup 2002 with 3-1).
But I don't think the Spanish leaugue is the best. If you ask me, the Premier League ( English) has the most better clubs. 10 years ago it was only Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea. But now you have: Blackburn Rovers, Fullham, etc. , etc.

For racing fans: I like Michael Schumacher :)

I think that you are at least a little biased. I think that the Italian league has a claim since two of its members were in the champions league final. And The German league did win a final within the last four years.

If you look at players, the EPL has a claim at being one of the top overall leagues.. top to bottom.

Nevertheless, I think at least that we could agee that the top leagues are in Europe

Now that Beckham is going to Real.. I will be watching them also. Hey...... can you get Real tickets??? :D

Wed Jul 23, 2003 2:35 pm

I am ... what... biased..... oh, welll,.... yes.... maybe..... who knows...... but you have to ask yourself who many team have ever won 9 champions league? and how many have 3 intercontinental cups??:D
about getting tickets, maybe if I can sneak inside the stadium and steal some of them...:D

Ofcourse it is so. Spanish league has only Real Madrid, Barca, and Deportivo. And they really buy players. Like: Beckham, Zidane, Raul, Figo, should I go on. Real has no players from the youth.
