This is pretty much my dream system too. I have almost the same specs you have, I have a plenty decent system, but while we're dreaming, I'll take that but i want an Fx 5900 ultra 256mb card. i know the 9800 is very strong, but I'dd like to see what the Fx 5900 ultra would do, I'm sure the AA and Anisotropic filtering don't kill performance as it does in the GF4's and all. Good dreams these are lol.

3wks from building a new rig

my 3yr old dustmagnet is finally starting to show its age

i got:
Athlon 850, 512mb RAM, 30gig HD, Hercules GT 6.1, geforce3 ti200, dvd, cdr, 19" Optiquest

already picked up a new aluminum case to fill w/ shiny new gizmos
this'll be my first complete PC build:

Asus A7V8X, Athlon 2400, 1gig DDR RAM, 80gig HD and sooner or later, a Radeon 9700pro

I am quite happy with my computer, even though it is 2 yrs old it runs pretty well.

I just wished that I lived closer to the USA so I get a better ping when I play.

I just upgraded my rig for $500.

With this I got the Asus A7N8X, Athlon 2800+ XP, and 1 gb ram 2300 .



And that wasn't even ordering from the internet.

well my current specs are:

Abit Is7-e
p4 2.4b(not overclocking at the moment)
1gb(2x512) geil golden dragon pc3500 in dual channel mode
gainward 5900 fx non ultra(oc'ed past ultra speeds)


My next upgrade will be to a p4 3.0c ghz

Why get a 3.0C when you can overclock a 2.4C to that easily? A 3.0C tops out at about 3.6Gig overclocking, where some 2.4C's get that high, but usually are at 3.2. Is the 400Mhz worth the extra $400 to $500?

I never said i was going to buy it right now:rotflmao: Ill probably wait until its in the $200 range. Ive spent too much money on parts lately. Too give you an idea, I have spent $100 on new swiftech heat sink with a pelt and another $100 on a dedicated power supply, and im not even using them right now. Man this hobby eats up money:help:

All I need on my computer right now is 512MB of RAM I have 320MB..I would like a better video card maybe a 32MB one right now I have a 8MB..

By the time the 3 Gig is at $200, the current P4's will not longer be their top proc, as Prescott will be out for some time by then.

Yeah I know. I want the prescott to come out so the prices will drop. I wont need to buy a prescott for a long long time.
When they come out the prices will drop on the p4s, and I will buy a 3.0c. My mobo already supports it, so it will be an easy and painless upgrade. If I buy a prescott, that means i have to get a new mobo, and new memory along with it. Plus I would have to do a fresh install of everything. I dont plan on reformatting for a long time because iVe had to reformat twice in the past month.

So far it is just still a rumor that Prescotts will nto run on the canterwood/springdale mobo's. I am hoping they do, as my IC7 is a very nice board.

Just got another dual channel kit int he mail at work today, now at 1 Gig of ram goodness(well, in an hour or two, when I take off for home).
