Off topic, but don't go too far overboard - after all, we are watching...heh.

Haitian groups try to get Vice City removed from shelves
It's just a matter of time before some nutcase goes on a killing spree and and says he was 'inspired' by a game.
This ought to stir up the violence in 'video' games debate again.

A debate about violnce in video games posted on a video game forum could be a little one sided

The thing is, it is not racist.
Even if it was, they are allowed to do it.

Wowzers. Type the words "haitian gang" into any search engine, and things about Vice City, specifically this topic are the first five things to come up. I don't think this is necessarily a violence in video games situation, rather a racially-motivated violence in video games situation. Still, I think it's pretty frivilous. It's a game, meant for entertainment. In reality, I'm sure there have been many instances of Cuban and Haitian gangs duking it out in the streets of Miami, much like in 1942 the Nazis fight the Americans. When people start picking apart entertainment outlets for offensive material, they're going to find it, primarily because most facets of entertainment are based on real-life. In Vice City, there are gangs that are identified by their nationality, much like in real life. Because these gangs are identified by their nationality, certain statements can be twisted by people looking to sue to appear as offensive to the entire culture. This is a case of semantics, and I think it's going to get thrown out of court.

That's probably true but I can kind of see why the Hatians would be concerned. Some loony tune will hear about this case and probably start offing Hatians.
In that regard, the groups may be serving up a self-fulfilling prophecy. Then they'll really have some 'ammunition' in court.

So, should Italians be pissed that the main character is a drug lord in the making? Hmm, evil Italian video game character = every single Italian ever born is evil?

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this started a cascade of other groups disliking their depiction in the game. Just seems like we've got other, more important, things to worry about.

Speek no ill will of anything nor anyone, lest we bring the police state down on your non-politically correct ass.
To be honest I think we should remove all Pooh Bear items from the damn shelves. I find it offensive to depict the Bears as fat honey seaking slobs that do nothing.
I'll be right back. I have to give the ACLU a call concerning the bears and the smear campaign that has been generated towards them by Disney.

I'd also like you to change your username. I think -HaVoC- incites violence. You'll be hearing from my attorneys.
